The Purge will commence for at least one more annual, government-sanctioned night of anarchy on the small screen. Blumhouse Productions and USA Network have announced that the TV series based on the popular horror movie franchise will be given a second season. The announcement of a season 2 pickup comes ahead of the show’s season 1 finale, which is set to air tonight. The series takes place in the same universe as the movie franchise, which was created by James DeMonaco....

Leading UK Indies Black and Blue Films and Press On Features have wrapped production on their latest co-production, a blisteringly violent hooligan picture in the tradition of The Football Factory, Green Street Hooligans and Rise of the Footsoldier. The Rise and Fall of a White Collar Hooligan is written and directed by Paul Tanter (Jack Falls) and features a top ensemble genre cast including Nick Nevern, Simon Phillips, Roland Manookian, Billy Murray, Rebecca Ferdinando, Charlie Bond and Ricci Harnett....

Netflix is continuing to launch new character posters for Hemlock Grove Season 2. After giving us the entire Godfrey family yesterday, we now get the return of Peter Rumancek (Landon Liboiron) as everyone’s favorite werewolf and his cousin Psychic Destiny Rumancek (Kaniehtiio Horn). We also get our first look at Madeline Brewer as Miranda, a graphic novelist on a road trip to Los Angeles who gets side-tracked in the town of Hemlock Grove....

Lea Michele, Cory Monteith, Amber Riley, Hugh Laurie, Halle Berry, Ricky Gervais, Daniel Radcliffe, Jon Hamm and Martha Stewart are among the guest voices in the upcoming 22nd season of The Simpsons premiering Sunday, Sept. 26 (8:00-8:30 PM ET/PT) on FOX. In Elementary School Musical, the season premiere episode, Marge (Julie Kavner) sends Lisa (Yeardley Smith) to a performing arts camp where artsy counselors (guest voices Jemaine Clement and Bret McKenzie of Flight of the Conchords) and fellow musically inclined campers (guest voices Lea Michele, Cory Monteith and Amber Riley of Glee) inspire her to embrace her creative side....

Created by Japenese artist Akira Toriyama in 1984, Dragon Ball originally started out as a Manga comic and was adapted in 1986 for the screen as a TV series. It tells the story of a stranded alien baby boy named Son Goku, who is found and adopted by an old martial arts expert. After losing his adoptee grandfather, Goku and his newfound friends set out on an adventure to search for seven magical Dragon Balls, which have the power to summon a wish-granting super dragon....

Official Thor: Love and Thunder action figures have provided a new sneak peek at the film’s antagonist. In the movie, Christian Bale makes his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut as the dastardly Gorr the God Butcher, serving as a foe to Chris Hemsworth’s Thor and Natalie Portman’s The Mighty Thor. While we know of his casting, not much has been seen of Bale in character beyond blurry photos leaked from the set and a look at the LEGO version of the supervillain....

According to Variety, Timur Bekmambetov, whose sci-fi actioner Night Watch was a Russian box office sensation, has inked his first deal to helm an English-lingo pic, Universal’s Wanted. Wanted is based on a comicbook series by Mark Millar. Marc Platt set up the series with Universal last year and will produce with Jason Netter and Jim Lemley, with Marc Silvestri exec producing. Night Watch grossed more than $15 million in Russia and sold an unprecedented 600,000 DVDs in the piracy-plagued territory....

Steven Toast has finally crossed the pond to make it big in Hollywood if the Toast of Tinseltown trailer is to be believed. Toast (Matt Berry) has had a turbulent career, to put it mildly, but don’t you fret! He’s landed a role in the new Star Wars movie! This true thespian will surely find success this round. Husband-and-wife pair, Jason and Sarah Haygarth, were on a walk with their dog in a very remote and quite hilly U.K. national park called Like District when to their surprise, they noticed an unusual sight. Helicopters were hovering over one area. The Haygarths told Extra: After Sarah and Jason got the “all clear” to continue their hike, the couple stumbled upon actor Tom Cruise “strapping himself into a paraglider.” “Toward the end of the walk, last peak, we start seeing helicopters coming up a ravine and dropping people off the top… We were like, this didn’t seem right....

Spider-Man: No Way Home star Tom Holland has responded with overwhelming positivity to the idea of sharing the screen with Charlie Cox’s Daredevil. The actor, who will face-off against all manner of multiversal madness in Spider-Man: No Way Home later this month, heaped praise on Cox’s work in the Daredevil Netflix series, as well as the performance of his co-star Vincent D’Onofrio, and would clearly love for Spidey and Daredevil to join forces in the future....

NBC announced that Emmy Award winning Tom Selleck (Magnum, P.I.) will return to television series drama when he joins the starring cast of NBC’s Las Vegas (Fridays, 9-10 p.m. ET) next season as a charismatic, self-made billionaire who is surrounded by an air of mystery when he becomes the new owner of the Montecito Resort & Casino. In addition, James Caan, who has starred as Ed Deline, the Montecito’s surveillance head for four years, will return to the series for one episode in its 2007-08 season premiere after announcing earlier this year that he would be departing the series after its 2007 season finale....

Top Gun: Maverick has continued to soar up the chart of the year’s biggest movies, surpassing The Batman domestically while climbing to a global total of over $700 million. The Tom Cruise sequel has surpassed all expectation since finally arriving cinemas last month, and this weekend will jump to being the third highest grossing movie of the year so far, just around $40 million away from overtaking The Batman’s $770 global haul....

Tom Cruise continues to break records with his hotly anticipated action blockbuster, Top Gun: Maverick. The film is a direct sequel to Tony Scott’s 1986 classic Top Gun and features Cruise and Val Kilmer reprising their iconic roles as naval aviators Pete “Maverick” Mitchell and Tom “Iceman” Kazansky. Top Gun: Maverick marks Tom Cruise’s return to the big screen after a four-year-long hiatus, but judging by the film’s performance, it appears fans have been waiting for an eternity to see the charismatic actor perform death-defying stunts again....

Animation greats Hayao Miyazaki and John Lasseter and directors Robert Zemeckis and Tim Burton will take part in their first ever Comic-Con at the San Diego Convention Center July 23-24. The filmmakers will be on hand to help Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures showcase a wide-ranging roster of upcoming films, including 3D juggernauts Alice in Wonderland, Tron and Disney’s a Christmas Carol, and animated gems The Princess and the Frog, Beauty and the Beast, Ponyo and the Toy Story trilogy....

Variety reports that Wayfare Entertainment will be financing James Cameron’s $30 million 3D underwater survival drama, Sanctum. The film will be shooting with Cameron’s Avatar cameras and 3D technology. The film will be directed by Alister Grierson. It was written by Andrew Wight and John Garvin. Sanctum is a fictional film that was inspired by Wight’s near-death experience when he took an expedition of 15 divers into a remote underwater cave system....

In April, WarnerMedia merged with Discovery in what is quickly becoming one of the largest corporate shake-ups in Hollywood. Along with creating a totally new media conglomerate, the deal dramatically changed the leadership that effectively controlled some of the most popular titles in the business. The corporate structure changed itself in confusing legalistic ways that would require several degrees in economics to understand completely. But that structure is the one churning out some of our favorite movies and shows, including the Harry Potter franchise, everything from Cartoon Network, and the entire DC Universe....
