Loose on plot and dripping with colorful heaps of gore, Italian horror movies might be a shock to the system for those used to the darker palettes of their American or Japanese horror counterparts. Quality certainly varied in the most infamous of these flicks, but there was no denying their influence and controversy. Italian horror reached saturation in the 1970s and 80s, dubbed the “cannibal boom.” This bloodthirsty frenzy of low-budget films drew on the success of sleazy “mondo” films, “shockumentaries,” and often-banned “video nasties” that sprung up in the 1960s which focused on the supposed immorality of cultures of the Southern Hemisphere, featuring real and staged footage of dying people and animals....

Days before the film’s world premiere as a “Special Presentation” at the Toronto International Film Festival, THINKFilm has signed on as North American distributor of Brad Silberling’s character comedy 10 Items or Less, starring Academy Award-winner Morgan Freeman and Paz Vega, it was announced today by the company’s Theatrical Head Mark Urman. Written and directed by Silberling, who produced the film along with Lori McCreary and Julie Lynn, with Freeman serving as executive producer, the film is a joint production between Silberling’s Reveal Entertainment and Revelations Entertainment, the company headed by Freeman and McCreary....

If you had told Marvel fans back in 2011 when Thor debuted in theaters that it would be the first franchise in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to get more than three movies, they would have scoffed at the notion. According to The Business Online, Paramount may be in talks to revive Laura Croft for Tomb Raider 3. Sources in Hollywood say negotiations have started between Paramount and SCI for the latest movie, and Angelina Jolie has once again expressed an interest in starring as Lara Croft, the English archaeologist-adventurer. The video game and film industries have grown closer over the years, as games are licensed to film studios. The Tomb Raider game has sold more than 30m copies since 1996....

IMAX Corporation and Paramount Pictures announced today that Transformers: Dark of the Moon 3D, the third film in the blockbuster Transformers franchise, posted a record opening in IMAX theatres, generating $23.1 million globally since launch. The total IMAX domestic take was $14 million, while the 146 domestic theatres that played Transformers: Dark of the Moon exclusively generated $88,500 per screen. Transformers: Earthspark has revealed its voice cast for the all-new animated series coming to Paramount+ from Nickelodeon. During the Nickelodeon panel at San Diego Comic-Con, the series features a new generation of Autobots who are born on Earth and will discover the meaning of family through established characters like Optimus Prime and Bumblebee. As always there will be antagonists in the form of the Decepticons and Mandroid, who wants to wipe out all of the Transformers....
