It’s the first sci-fi film on record, taking inspiration from titles like From the Earth to the Moon and Around the Moon — two novels by Jules Verne. Marvel Studios’ latest adventure Thor follows the studio’s long tradition of featuring a brief scene after the end credits have rolled. While this shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone who follows these superhero tales, it might surprise you to learn who directed the end credit scene in Thor. Actor Stellan Skarsgård, who plays Erik Selvig in the movie, said that The Avengers director Joss Whedon directed the end credit scene, and not Thor director Kenneth Branagh....

Strike Entertainment and Universal Pictures will remake John Carpenter’s horror classic The Thing, according to Variety. The script will be written by Battlestar Galactica executive producer Ronald D. Moore. The 1982 original dealt with a shape-shifting creature from outer space that terrorizes researchers at an Antarctic facility. Carpenter’s film continued the storyline of the Howard Hawks-directed The Thing From Another World. That 1951 film starred James Arness as an alien monster that wiped out workers at an Army radar station....

Netflix has revealed a first-look image at the long-gestating Locke & Key TV show. This has been a long time coming, with the show in development at several places, including rival streaming service Hulu with a different creative team, before Netflix stepped in to rescue it. Since Guillermo del Toro will no longer be directing The Hobbit, two studios are focused on landing the most obvious choice to direct the upcoming film. Back in February we reported that U.K.-based Ecosse Films was adapting a new version of a famed Robert Louis Stevenson novel Treasure Island and now it seems that project has found a new competitor on the high seas. Pajiba is reporting that Sherlock Holmes producer Lionel Wigram is developing a competing Treasure Island project at Warner Bros. Wigram has a history of getting out in front of competitors, as he readied Sherlock Holmes quicker than a competing Holmes film, which was to star Will Ferrell and Sacha Baron Cohen and he is also producing The Three Musketeers with Doug Liman directing, which seems to be ahead of the competing Summit Entertainment The Three Musketeers that Paul W....

Warner Independent Pictures announced that it is partnering with Village Roadshow Pictures to distribute domestically December Boys starring Daniel Radcliffe while Warner Bros. International will help Village Roadshow distribute the Australian-produced and -financed movie overseas, according to Variety. The film, the first in which Radcliffe has starred since the launch of the Harry Potter franchise, opens Sept. 14 in the U.S. Rod Hardy directed December Boys and Marc Rosenberg adapted Michael Noonan’s coming-of-age book of the same name....
