Netflix, the world’s leading Internet TV network, has picked up two seasons and will be the exclusive home to Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, the new comedy series from Universal Television from co-creators Tina Fey and Robert Carlock. The series stars Ellie Kemper (The Office) as a woman who escapes from a doomsday cult and starts life over in New York. The 13-episode first season was originally slated to premiere on NBC and instead will now launch exclusively across all Netflix territories in March 2015....

Anchor Bay Films announced today the acquisition of all North American distribution rights to the latest film by Amy Heckerling (Clueless, Fast Times at Ridgemont High), Vamps. Starring Alicia Silverstone (Clueless, Batman & Robin), Krysten Ritter (Don’t Trust the B—- In Apartment 23, Confessions of a Shopaholic), Wallace Shawn (Toy Story, The Princess Bride) and Sigourney Weaver (Aliens, Avatar), the film combines the fun of the classic hit Clueless with the tremendous popularity of vampires....

The Walking Dead has a history of big stakes and memorable moments in its season finales, but this is different. Warner Bros. has picked up Galveston, an original script from screenwriter Daniel Sussman and producer Polly Johnsen about the deadliest natural disaster in American history, which took place in Galveston, Texas. According to Risky Business, on Sept. 8, 1900, a Category 4 hurricane destroyed Galveston, taking with it about 8,000 people (more than four times the toll of Hurricane Katrina). At the time, the growing burg was the biggest in the state, a diverse and booming port town – sometimes called the “Wall Street of the Southwest” – where vacationing businessmen mingled with locals of all social classes....

Back in March, we reported that Season 8 of Weeds will debut Sunday, July 1 at 10 PM ET on Showtime. Today the studio has revealed that the upcoming season will be its last. Here’s what series creator Jenji Kohan had to say about her beloved show. The final season will start out with a resolution to Season 7’s cliffhanger involving an assassination attempt, but the creator revealed they haven’t quite figured out how to end the series yet....

An adaptation of a novel carrying the same name, authored by Suzanne Allain, the movie was expected to deliver in the same way its source text had. While the novel has already had an adaptation, in the form of a short film produced by Emma Holly Jones, the latest lengthened adaptation of it is also produced by Jones and is her feature directorial debut....

Evil Dead IV, which may simply be titled The Evil Dead, is a reboot/quasi-remake that has been gestating in the bowels of Hades since at least 2004. It seems that producer Sam Raimi, who wrote and directed the first three films in the franchise, is moving forward with this low-budget horror splatstick endeavor, and he has hired director Federico Alvarez to take the reigns. The Good This is just a great, fun filled show that speaks a lot to the social commentary of the day. The Bad No episode commentary tracks or behind the scenes featurettes. The Fresh Prince of Bel Air: The Complete Third Season works because it started to pick up the slack as The Cosby Show started to wane. While personally I love both of these shows (and at that time I watched The Cosby Show and not The Fresh Prince of Bel Air), I can see how the charm of Will Smith would make people, especially younger people, veer off more in his direction....

The Good A very well done film that seemed to get lost when it came to award consideration time. The Bad The “Extra Features,” while all well done, began to cover the same ground after awhile. Something tells me that Disney’s divorce with Miramax had a big effect on the films that “Miramax” was releasing in the marketplace during that time. A good example would be The Great Raid. With advertising costs factored in, this movie cost about $80 million dollars....

Vanity Fair has released an exclusive first look at the upcoming The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, showing Lucy Gray Baird (West Side Story’s Rachel Zegler) and Coriolanus Snow (English actor Tom Blyth) holding hands and gazing wistfully at the sky. The upcoming prequel tells the story of Panem’s diabolical President Snow, 64 years before the events of the first The Hunger Games novel. AMC’s head of original programming Joel Stillerman announced that fans of The Killing will find out who killed Rosie Larsen in season two, acknowledging the season one cliffhanger disappointed a lot of people. Joel Stillerman also addressed the status of The Walking Dead, which earlier this week saw showrunner Frank Darabont step down to be replaced by writer and executive producer Glen Mazzara. “For everybody who was frustrated, we hear you,” said Joel Stillerman, addressing reporters at the semi-annual Television Critics Association press tour....
