The Weakest Link reboot is sticking around for a while on NBC, as the network has put in the order for a second season of the Jane Lynch-hosted game show. With the renewal now official, casting has been opened for contestants with plans to begin filming the 13-episode sophomore season later this year. The news comes after reports of the The Weakest Link reboot performing well in the ratings, which includes a spot as the second most-watched new broadcast alternative series of the fall....

This press release came in today from PR News Wire: The Weinstein Company (TWC), the multi- media enterprise launched by Bob and Harvey Weinstein, today announced the launch of an innovative $285 million fund that will fully finance the development, production, acquisition, marketing and distribution of a large slate of Asian themed films over the next six years. Worldwide distribution for all films under the deal will be controlled by The Weinstein Company and will include DVD distribution in the United States under TWC’s agreement with Genius Products....

Tobey Maguire has bought the rights to the life story of Gerald Fraller. The web entrepreneur is attempting to sell his soul online through his Winmysoul.com Web site; it caught the attention of the Spider-Man star, who made a deal with him to adapt his story for the bigscreen for Maguire Entertainment and Nash Entertainment. Variety reports after his dream job in Taiwan didn’t pan out, Fraller was an unemployed and depressed 28-year-old when he decided he needed a dramatic life change....

Back in March 2022, a new gem was added to Pixar’s sparkling catalog: Turning Red. This animated film revolves around Mei Lee, a 13-year-old Chinese-Canadian girl who struggles between being obedient to her parents’ commands and experiencing the chaos of being a teenager. And as if that weren’t enough, she is tormented by an inherited curse that turns her into a giant red panda whenever she experiences a strong emotion. Fortunately, Mei counts on the help of her loyal group of friends and her family, who eventually come to terms with who she is and learn to support her decisions....

USA Network is developing four character-centered projects for 2008-09. On the slate… White Collar (working title), from Fox Television Studios and writer/executive producer Jeff Eastin (“Hawaii”), centers on a con man who escapes from maximum-security prison only to be tracked down by his FBI nemesis and used as a consultant to catch other criminals. Royal Pains (working title) focuses on a young doctor who, after losing everything based on one principled decision in the ER, takes a weekend trip to the Hamptons and ends up reviving his career as a concierge doctor to the rich – though he’s not exactly happy about it....

Warner Sunset/Reprise Records will release both the soundtrack and original score to the feature film Watchmen on March 3rd – three days before the March 6th release of the highly anticipated feature film. Music From The Motion Picture Watchmen, the film’s official soundtrack, includes My Chemical Romance’s powerful reinterpretation of Bob Dylan’s “Desolation Row,” recorded exclusively for the film. The soundtrack also features a collection of classic songs by such artists as Nat King Cole, Simon & Garfunkel, and Janis Joplin, which, once heard in the context of the film, will never be thought of the same way again....

Paramount Pictures has lifted the lid on a top-secret movie project, by showing the teaser trailer for Cloverfield, before all screenings of Transformers, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Cloverfield, which revolves around a monster attack in New York as told from the point of view of a small group of people, is being produced by J.J. Abrams. It is being directed by Matt Reeves, who co-created Felicity with Abrams, and is written by Drew Goddard, who has worked with Abrams on Lost and Alias....

Sorry to those who binged the whole thing over the weekend and are craving more, but Maniac season 2 is never going to happen. The new Cary Fukunaga series debuted to rave reviews from viewers and critics alike. In most cases, that would mean the network, or in this case, Netflix, would give the green light for a second season. Warner Bros. has canceled tonight’s Paris premiere of The Dark Knight Rises, in the wake of the tragic shooting at a Colorado theater early this morning, that left 12 dead and 38 wounded. Acclaimed director Steven Spielberg has set his next film. Following up on the heels of his critically acclaimed remake of West Side Story, The Fabelmans will be a semi-autobiographical take on the iconic filmmakers’ childhood growing up in postwar America. Development of The Fabelmans dates back more than twenty years. Back then, Spielberg’s sister, Anne, penned a script about their family life titled I’ll Be Home Soon. The story never went anywhere due to Spielberg’s fears of how to properly represent something based so much on his own life....
