Deadline is reporting that Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows will begin filming in April. Johnny Depp will star as the vampire Barnabas Collins in this new Warner Bros. thriller, which will be based on the 1966 TV series Dark Shadows. We reported back in July that Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter author/screenwriter Seth Grahame-Smith is writing the script, with production slated to start in January. Now it seems production has been pushed to April....

Titanic: Special Collector’s Edition, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and Crash won big at the recent Entertainment Merchants Association Home Entertainment Awards. In a story from The Hollywood Reporter, Lost: The Complete First Season nabbed the technical awards for commentary and overall presentation for TV releases. Titanic: Special Collector’s Edition won the best video transfer from a nondigital source and best supplementary material and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire took home DVD extras of the year and sell-through title of the year from a major studio....
Tobey Maguire plays the menacing villain James McKay in Damien Chazelle’s Babylon. The character is worlds away from how audiences are used to seeing the actor, best known for his portrayal of the sweet Peter Parker throughout Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy. Babylon is set in 1920s Hollywood, as fictitious industry characters transition from silent to sound films and McKay is violent mob boss (whose got a couple of film ideas). Chazelle told EW that Maguire chose to play McKay, calling the film villain the “creepiest, the most depraved of all of them....

The release calendar is shifting once again, this time in favor of some popular vampires. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Summit Pictures’ Twilight has stepped into the recently-vacated release date of November 21, which was held by Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince until it was announced yesterday that the film will be pushed back to next summer. Blumhouse Television and Epix will be releasing the new zombie flick Unhuman next month, and a new trailer has just been released. The film groups up a team of misfit teens and has them fighting for their lives when their school bus comes under siege by something… unhuman. Though it’s as bloody and violent as you would expect a zombie movie to be, there’s a lot of dark humor showcased as well, which you can see by watching the trailer below....
The Gary Marshall directed film Valentine’s Day, which features an all-star cast doesn’t even open till Friday but already has a sequel being planned. According to Deadline Hollywood the film’s producers Mike Karz, Wayne Allan Rice and Josie Rosen and studio execs Sam Brown and Michael Disco are planning ahead for the film’s possible success by having screenwriter Katherine Fugate write another holiday-themed film as a follow-up called New Years Eve....

Empire reports that Warner Bros. is purchasing the legendary U.K. facility Leavesden Studios and will turn it into a cutting-edge filmmaking facility. It’s true. It’s finally happening. The Umbrella Academy star Elliot Page has taken to social media to announce that the third season of Netflix’s unconventional superhero show has now begun filming. The actor shared a picture from the set along with the caption, “Omg we’re back again,” in what is presumably a nod to famous boy band, Backstreet Boys. Based on Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá’s Dark Horse comic book series of the same name, The Umbrella Academy has been a huge hit for the streaming giant, with both seasons receiving rave reviews and high viewing numbers....
