Universal Pictures and Imagine Entertainment’s Brian Grazer have signed on John Adams helmer Tom Hooper to direct and Christopher Hampton to write East of Eden, an adaptation of the John Steinbeck novel, according to Variety. First published in 1952, East of Eden is Steinbeck’s retelling of the Cain and Abel story, set in California’s Salinas Valley. The multigenerational story focuses on the Trask brothers and a woman who comes between the siblings....

They later find out they were preparing to save the world, though many questions arise from that discovery. In a story from Home Media Magazine, Wal-Mart will be selling “Toshiba’s $300 HD-A2 HD-DVD player for $198.” This unit “offers 720p/1080i resolution, unlike Toshiba’s third-generation players the HD-A30 ($399.99) and the HD-A35 ($499.99), which feature 1080p output.” This prompted “Craig Kornblau, president of Universal Studios Home Entertainment and Universal Pictures Digital Platforms,” to identify “dipping below the $200 price as a turning point in mass consumer adoption of high-def packaged media....

Universal Pictures has secured Wanted producer Marc Platt for five years, keeping Marc Platt Prods. on the lot through late 2012, according to Variety. The deal comes as Platt begins work on Wanted 2 with director Timur Bekmambetov and writers Michael Brandt and Derek Haas. In Wanted 2, Platt acknowledged that the creative team is still working on the challenge of continuing the story after most of the principal characters – including Angelina Jolie – ended the original in no position for an encore....
Disney+ has just released the first teaser trailer for Willow, an upcoming series that serves as a continuation to the original fantasy film of the same name. The CW Network is slightly altering its plans for their Arrow spin-off The Flash, giving it a stand-alone pilot order instead of a back door pilot that would air as an episode of Arrow. The network’s plan was to originally have Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) appear in three Season 2 episodes of Arrow, Episode 8 (“The Scientist”), Episode 9 (“Three Ghosts”) and Episode 20. The character will still appear in Episodes 8 and 9, which will serve as an origin story for Barry Allen, but instead of turning Episode 20 into a back door pilot, the network has opted for a traditional pilot....
