Hollywood is obsessed with youth. Everywhere you look, women in film and television series are doing everything they can to maintain their youthful skin, hair, and body. It is said that once you turn 40 in Hollywood, you’re invisible. That’s a damn shame as women over 40 are not only still beautiful and desirable, but they have wisdom in their eyes that leads to richer and more nuanced performances. Sharon Stone’s performance in All I Wish (currently streaming on Netflix) is an interesting example....

It isn’t easy making a good parody movie. While it’s one thing to poke fun at other movies, its another to make an actually entertaining movie that stands out on its own in the process. Plenty of genres have been parodied throughout the years to varying degrees of success. Whether it be the biopic or hit action movies, parody movies have long been a staple genre that have produced some truly classic films....

A classic film is a reference point for other films, as Film Site describes. Masterpieces like The Wizard of Oz, Arsenic and Old Lace, The Godfather, and Psycho serve as blueprints for directors to follow and studios to build a new story to present to audiences. Of course, literature can be a starting point as well, like The Wizard of Oz was for producers at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. But a book’s success isn’t necessarily indicative of its merits as a film adaptation....

When Fifty Shades of Grey rose to infamy, it was slammed for its depiction of romanticized unhealthy relationships, its wacky portrayal of BDSM, and, most laughably, the fact that it was once a piece of Twilight fanfiction. Despite its revisions and the years passed from fanfic to actual story, many could not let go of its origins, seeing the fictional Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey as the former and still fictional, Bella Swan and Edward Cullen....

Adult Swim stars Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim have begun production on Tim and Eric’s Billion Dollar Movie, starring Zach Galifianakis, Will Ferrell, John C. Reilly, Robert Loggia, Jeff Goldblum, Will Forte and William Atherton, reports The Wrap. Apparently, the rumors that Harrison Ford will appear in the movie are false, the writer-directors said in an interview. The movie is about the comedians’ characters, Tim and Eric, who, Eric Wareheim said, “literally get a billion dollars to make a movie, and we make it, and things go awry, and Tim and I just decide to get out of Hollywood and become businessmen in an abandoned mall....

Whether the headlines are about a director’s latest film or argument on set, one element stands out: the director is commonly a man. In fact, Vanity Fair reports: “There are about 23.8 male directors for every female director, a statistic that sharply drops for black female and Asian female directors. Out of the 57 black directors included, only three were female, and out of the 34 Asian directors, only three were female....

Spider-Man will be web-slinging his way back onto the big screen soon enough, but will it be without Tom Holland in the suit? It’s been hard to say lately. Producer Amy Pascal has said there are plans to bring back Holland for another trilogy of movies, but it was later reported that this announcement was premature. Officially, Holland is not signed on to star in any more movies at this time, even if development on Spider-Man 4 is already in its early stages....

Spider-Man: No Way Home star Tom Holland has suggested that another action-packed collaboration between his Peter Parker and the likes of Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire could happen in a future Spider-Man outing. Speaking with Variety, Holland did stipulate that he does not know whether it will happen, but assured Spider-Man: No Way Home fans that there is no reason why it couldn’t, shouldn’t, and wouldn’t. While it may happen, Holland is more than happy with the result of Spider-Man: No Way Home (as are audiences)....

Is HD DVD finally throwing in the towel? According to a story from Home Media Magazine, the Toshiba-backed format is ready to do just that. “An announcement is coming soon,” said one source close to the HD DVD camp. “It would be a matter of weeks.” However, Toshiba remained firm on their stance that their format is the best and Jodi Sally, Toshiba’s VP of marketing, said an official decision hasn’t been made....

From originally hosting obscure films and shows to now producing its own originals, the ad-supported service has slowly etched out its own niche in the competitive streaming market. Released in 2000, Unbreakable was filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan’s follow-up to his Oscar-nominated breakout The Sixth Sense, and sought to ground the superhero genre in Shyamalan’s trademark thriller styling. It follows David Dunn (Bruce Willis), the lone survivor of a train crash, who comes to realize that he may be the world’s first living superhero. While the concept of a realistic superhero wasn’t new, Shyamalan approached the subject with a slower, more thoughtful pace that was well-reviewed, with Roger Ebert stating, “most of the action takes place during conversations....

Showtime has hired screenwriter Brian K. Vaughan (Lost, Runaways) to adapt the Stephen King novel Under the Dome. We first reported on this back in August when Showtime acquired the rights to Under the Dome. The story centers on a Maine tourist trap, whose residents become inexplicably cut off from the rest of the world when a force field goes up around their sleepy town. The seclusion starts to drive the townsfolk mad, as they begin to battle one another....

The Addams Family has been rebooted in the form of Wednesday, an all-new series at Netflix starring Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams. As the title would suggest, the show is primarily focused on Wednesday as an older teen attending Nevermore Academy.
