Pierce Brosnan’s regal peacock strut can’t save a lackluster fairy tale. The King’s Daughter is a long-shelved Renaissance fantasy resplendent with mermaids, palace intrigue, and a spirited heroine. Adapted from the award-winning novel “The Moon and the Sun” by Vonda N. McIntyre, the film fails to enchant on any level. It’s a curious disappointment because some pieces do work. The cast, production design, and visual effects are decent; but the narrative flounders with a thoroughly uninspiring delivery....

It isn’t really in film studios’ nature to underpromise and over-deliver. Never did Don LaFontaine’s voiceover undersell a movie in a trailer — “A mediocre film about an unspectacular man. Instead, the vast catalog of A-list actors starring in the said film is rammed down our throats, and seemingly every critic that has ever lived is said to believe the movie is the “best action thriller in 10 years,” or “the funniest film ever made....

Just in time for Halloween, Rob Zombie recently released The Munsters, the first-ever PG-rated movie from the House of 1000 Corpses director. A lifelong fan of The Munsters, the reboot had been a passion project long pursued by Zombie before he was finally able to get the rights to move forward with his vision. Zombie decided to explore the origin story of the beloved monster family picking up with the creation of Herman Munster, now played by Jeff Daniel Phillips....

Boyd Holbrook is the latest actor to announce their wish to play the iconic DC comics villain, The Joker. Holbrook is no stranger to starring in comic book adaptations, having played the secondary antagonists in Logan and Netflix’s The Sandman, and he seems to have taken a liking to play bad guys. However, two comic book adaptations are enough for Holbrook right now, unless he gets the opportunity to play the Joker, in which case, he’d jump right in....

If you’re a fan of fantasy films, chances are, you’ve seen your fair share of elves. In fantasy films such as Lord of the Rings or The Dark Crystal, elves are depicted as good, magical beings who are tall, slender, and have pointed ears and long flowing hair. In Christmas films such as The Polar Express or Santa Claus Is Coming to Town, elves are shorter than humans and enjoy working and making toys....

Directing a movie is hard. You are the head of massive production, and every decision about what winds up on screen has to be made by you. There is always the chance of something going terribly wrong, like unexpected weather problems, actors not wanting to participate, props failing, and drama behind the scenes causing an uncomfortable working environment that could result in you getting fired. Even if you have a great script, if you’re not in control of everything and absolutely focused on what needs to get down and how to best execute those decisions, there’s a very good chance you’ll turn out a real clunker of a movie....

After graduating from the California Institute of the Arts in 1986, Don Cheadle would go on to appear in various film and tv show roles until he truly got recognized in the mid-90s. By the time the mid-2000s rolled around, Cheadle found himself with several nominations and wins from the most prestigious awards ceremonies in film. Then, by the 2010s, he achieved superstardom thanks to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. According to Variety, producer Ed Pressman’s Pressman & Co. Films banner said Wednesday that it has signed The Punisher star Thomas Jane to topline its sci-fi/action epic The Mutant Chronicles, based on the role-playing board game of the same name. The project is finally moving ahead after having been in development under Pressman for a decade. Voltage Pictures recently signed on as pic’s foreign sales rep at the recent American Film Market....

It’s a third straight week at number one for Happy Feet. The animated comedy brought in $17 million over the weekend; that takes the total to $121 million, says Box Office Mojo. Casino Royale made it in second place for the third week in a row; this time, Daniel Craig as James Bond made $15.1 million for a three week total of $115.8 million. Deja Vu finished in third with $11 million; Denzel Washington, Paula Patton, and Adam Goldberg star in the action drama from Tony Scott and Jerry Bruckheimer....

Tony Scott has found his next directorial effort in the pages of a Marvel Icon graphic novel. According to Deadline, the acclaimed action auteur is gearing up to lens a big screen adaptation of Nemesis, a thrill-packed vigilante tale from writer Mark Millar and artist Steven McNiven. 20th Century Fox acquired the rights to the title, and the film will be produced by Scott Free. Released in stores last March, the graphic novel follows the exploits of billionaire genius Matt Anderson, a great fighter looking to exact revenge on those who killed his parents....

2021 writer Quinta Brunson and the cast welcomed viewers to Willard R. Abbott Elementary School. It was early winter, and school was in session. The pilot of the new series had fantastic energy.
