Vadim Perelman is in talks to develop MGM’s Poltergeist remake with an eye toward directing the feature. Perelman would join writers Juliet Snowden and Stiles White, who were just hired last week to redo the 1982 horror classic. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the original version was directed by Tobe Hooper from a script co-written by Steven Spielberg. The film’s exploration of an ordinary family’s reaction to an extraordinarily intense situation likely appealed to Perelman, who delved into similar dynamics in his debut, 2003’s House of Sand and Fog, and last year’s The Life Before Her Eyes....

Back in June, a report surfaced that claimed AMC’s hit zombie series The Walking Dead is adding two new female characters into the mix. The first is Naomi, said to be a “grandmotherly type” who has lost so many loved ones, that now she’ll do whatever it takes to prevent anyone around her from dying. The second character is named Jennie, described as a “sunny-side up teenager.” It seems that Jennie has already been cast, with actress Sydney Park taking on the role, with new set photos showing her in action....

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY While a Lord of the Rings show would seem like a no-brainer for a network like HBO, especially with the Game of Thrones final season currently in production, Richard Plepler’s statement does make sense. The premium cable network wouldn’t be able to own the entire show, with Warner Bros. Television and the J.R.R. Tolkien estate in the mix. While a Lord of the Rings series would certainly cater to the same type of audience that watches Game of Thrones, the LOTR stories aren’t exactly known for being “edgy,” which is more in HBO’s wheelhouse....

The CW Network has given early renewals to seven of its primetime series for the 2017-2018 season. The announcement was made today during the network’s session at the Television Critics Association Press Tour in Pasadena by Mark Pedowitz, President, The CW. Here’s what the network president had to say in a statement below about these renewals. The series being ordered for the 2017-2018 season include Arrow (Season 6), Crazy Ex-Girlfriend (Season 3), DC’s Legends of Tomorrow (Season 3), The Flash (Season 4), Jane the Virgin (Season 4), Supergirl (Season 3), and Supernatural (Season 13)....

The daytime TV program The Drew Barrymore Show has secured another year on the air. Per Variety, the show has officially been renewed for a fourth year on CBS stations, guaranteeing that it will be on through the 2023-24 season. It’s noted that ratings for the show have only increased over the past season following a change in format that seems to be working out well, according to CBS Media Ventures president Steve LoCascio....

Acting is a profession of fine measures, with its outcome and appreciation being very subjective in nature. That being said, there often is a clear difference between good performances and bad ones. What often seems to be a matter of contention is whether an actor’s over-the-top performance is warranted by the characters emotional needs. Since acting isn’t an outright, technical medium where you can quantify the actors efforts, the results of the performance often lie in the hands of the viewer....

Universal’s publicity machine is rapidly getting up steam ahead of the December release of the much-anticipated movie adaptation of the Super Mario game franchise, possibly as a prelude to a Nintendo cinematic universe. TV Week is reporting that The Office showrunner Greg Daniels has joined the picket line, and he has taken his show’s cast with him. Including Steve Carrell. Daniels stated, “We’re trying to shut down The Office. We have the star of our show and the entire writing staff behind us.” When Daniels arrived at the line around 4:15, none of his actors had crossed the line. Actors B.J. Novak, Mindy Kaling and Paul Lieberstein also serve as writers on the show....

While it’s the time for some TV shows to be renewed, it’s also the time for others to be let go. According to The Hollywood Reporter, CBS has canceled The Unit and Without a Trace, while NBC has canceled My Name Is Earl and Medium. However, it seems that for My Name Is Earl and Medium, their series could continue on other networks. My Name Is Earl producers are in discussions with Fox and ABC while Medium is in discussions with CBS....
