Spoiler Warning: Dual (2022) Some filmmakers create stories; others create worlds. Most of the directors and writers in the latter category make big genre films, think George Lucas and Steven Spielberg, but there are some independent artists who craft alternate realities which require the audience to accept an unusual realm where everything doesn’t make sense. A prime example of this would be Yorgos Lanthimos, who, in films like The Lobster, establishes a world where things are similar to our own, but many things just feel slightly off....

Spider-Man has one of the most famous rogue’s galleries of any superhero. Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus, and Venom can all be considered major Spider-Man villains. Thanks to the movies, villains like Sandman, Vulture, Mysterio, Electro, and Lizard are mostly household names. One villain has yet to appear in a Spider-Man movie and has cast such a large shadow that fans have been waiting to see him on the big screen for years: Kraven the Hunter....

Adult Swim announced today The Eric Andre Show, a new late night talk show directed by Andrew Barchilon and Kitao Sakurai, will shatter televisions everywhere starting Sunday, May 20th at 12:30am (ET/PT). The Eric Andre Show may be the most manic and unorthodox late night talk show ever made. The show’s traditional talk show format quickly devolves into chaos as its inept and bipolar host Eric André, along with his apathetic co-host Hannibal Buress, subvert all late night conventions....

Principal photography has begun on The Grudge 2, it was announced today by Columbia Pictures and Ghost House Pictures. The film is the much-anticipated sequel to the 2004 hit The Grudge, which earned $188 million in worldwide box office receipts. The Grudge 2 delves into the secrets behind the grudge’s wrath and introduces a seemingly unrelated host of new characters who find themselves connected by the same terrifying supernatural curse....

Zombie apocalypse enthusiasts are ready to tear the living flesh off the new HBO series The Last of Us, based on the popular video game franchise of the same name. The new show, created by Craig Mazin (creator of the HBO miniseries Chernobyl) and Neil Druckmann (writer of the original game), arrives at the perfect time. The Walking Dead recently concluded its 11th and final season on AMC last November, and zombie fans are hungry....

Five years ago, Universal seemed set to launch their Dark Universe and revive some of the most iconic movie monsters of all time in an interconnected world that would have seen the likes of Dr. Jekyll crossing paths with Frankenstein, the Wolfman and, in a first movie, The Mummy. Led by Tom Cruise, The Mummy arrived in 2017 and one in swoop managed to derail the entire project as a commercial and critical failure....

The sun hasn’t yet set on the western genre. Sometimes comedic, sometimes fantastical, recent releases like Prime Video’s The English show that the genre still has plenty of horses left in its stable. The season one finale of The Rings of Power left a lot of things to be picked up later, but it looks like we might have to wait some years for more in season two. While we wait, we can review Tolkien’s vast writings and figure out where the second season might take us. Yet, as season one has shown that the series is condensing and modifying the lore of Middle-Earth, events likely won’t align exactly with Tolkien’s writing in season two either, and we don’t know what will be changed or left out....

The show is about a family that moves from America to Africa for what is supposed to be a year, but if ratings are good, their year might end up being a lot longer. Only time will tell....

Robert Kirkman, who created the graphic novel the hit AMC series The Walking Dead is based on, revealed that characters such as Tyrese and Michonne from the comic book could surface in Season 2. He gave Tyrese a 68 percent chance of showing up in the second season, and Michonne a 50 percent chance. Another fan-favorite character from the graphic novel, The Governor, will not appear in Season 2, although there is a 92 percent chance he will show up in Season 3....

Another seven days has come and gone, and left us with a new slew of movie news, new box office info, new official websites for upcoming movies and new trailers. So lets get right into it with this week’s Notables. NOTABLES “Isla Fisher to Star in The Cookie Queen” - Monday, April 30: This sounds like a slick little project that will test the bankability of Fisher, who stole many a scene in Wedding Crashers....

The Good This was the best movie of 2005. The Bad I wish Anthony Hopkins would have been a part of the commentary track. The World’s Fastest Indian was the best film of last year. Sadly, it was released by a small company, Magnolia Films, so it didn’t get the kind of fanfare that it should have. Interestingly, billionaire Mark Cuban owns Magnolia Films (which I believe is the theatrical arm of his HDNET Films) but it probably didn’t seem like good business to put an Oscar campaign behind this movie....

Hollywood is known for making controversial films. After all, it’s almost inevitable, as films are considered visual works of art, and art is widely known to be subjective. When it comes to art, it’s impossible to please everyone. Therefore, films will resonate with some audiences, while offending others. No two moviegoers will see films in the same light. That’s because everyone is different and views films from their own unique perspectives....

There’s not a lot that a superhero can do without an extra bit of help. And that is no different with our MCU superheroes. Can you imagine the Ant-Man franchise without Luis’ (Michael Peña) frantic, exaggerated story-telling? Can you picture the Guardians of the Galaxy without the good-natured Groot that has become the fandom favorite? Indeed, sidekicks have become crucial characters in the superheroes spectacles, whether as best friends, relatives, or ordinary citizens doing their part to make the world a better place....

The Fear Street Trilogy is a horror film series based on R. L. Stine’s series of the same name. The plot follows a group of teens who do everything in their power to break the curse that has been looming over their town for hundreds of years. The trilogy consists of: Fear Street Part 1: 1994, which follows teens in Shadyside who experience a series of murders carried out by the evil force in their town; Fear Street Part 2: 1978 follows teens at Camp Nightwing who must survive a possessed counselors’ terror; and the final installation Fear Street Part 3: 1666, which covers the origins of the curse over the town in the mid-17th century....

There have been such a wide array of movies that have been made in the hundred years cinema has existed. Movies of all different genres, budgets, runtimes, and so on. Many movies have very high budgets or are award-worthy, while many do not possess those qualities. There is a multitude of “B” movies in existence that have had to fight through the laundry list of “A” movies that grab audiences’ attention....
