Tom Cruise continues to break records this summer with the blockbuster hit Top Gun: Maverick. The sequel has pulled in $1.3 billion at the box office and now claims 13th place in the all-time highest-grossing movies worldwide list, right between Black Panther and Avengers: Age of Ultron. Despite the historic film, Cruise is looking toward his future with three different projects with Christopher McQuarrie, according to reports from Deadline. The duo is currently hatching ideas for their next original film, which may center on Les Grossman, Cruise’s character from the 2008 movie Tropic Thunder....

Filming has begun in Toronto on the 12-part action series Transporter, starring Chris Vance in the title role. Shooting through this November, the series will debut on CINEMAX in 2012. The series’ executive producers are Luc Besson, Fred Fuchs, Robert Cooper, Joseph Mallozzi & Paul Mullie and Alexander Ruemelin; produced by Susan Murdoch (QVF Inc.) and Klaus Zimmermann (Atlantique Productions). Transporter is a France/Canada international treaty co-production produced by Atlantique Productions and QVF Inc....

Tron: Legacy isn’t the only movie bringing out the weirdoes this holiday season. The Wagner/Cuban Company’s Magnet Releasing, genre arm of Magnolia Pictures announced today that it has acquired US rights to Brad Anderson’s Vanishing on 7th Street. Starring Hayden Christensen, John Leguizamo, Thandie Newton and young R&B sensation Jacob Latimore, Vanishing on 7th Street is a scary, character driven horror film that taps into one of humankind’s most basic and universal anxieties: fear of the dark. Actress Virginia Patton Moss, who memorably appeared in the classic Christmas movie It’s a Wonderful Life, has died. Per Variety, Moss, who was the last-surviving adult cast member of It’s a Wonderful Life, reportedly passed away on Aug. 18 in Albany, Georgia. She was 97 years old. Taking to Facebook to express her sorrow, former child star Karolyn Grimes, who appeared in It’s a Wonderful Life, wrote a message that reads: “We have another angel!...

Moviefone has officially unveiled the 2nd full length trailer for the upcoming adaptation of C.S. Lewis’ beloved literary classic, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. What We Do in the Shadows is bringing in some star power from a galaxy far, far away for season 2. It’s been revealed that Luke Skywalker himself, Mark Hamill, is set to guest star in the sophomore season of the FX series. IMAX Corporation and Sony Pictures Releasing announced today that The Green Hornet, the highly anticipated adaptation of the radio and television masked superhero character will be released to IMAX theatres, simultaneously with the film’s wide domestic 2D and 3D release on January 14, 2011. The film will be digitally re-mastered into the image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience and presented in IMAX 3D. “We are tremendously excited that The Green Hornet will be released in IMAX 3D as part of our wide release of the film,” said Rory Bruer, President, Worldwide Distribution for Sony Pictures Releasing....

A producer of one of this year’s 10 Best Picture nominees has found himself in some trouble after some negative emails surfaced. The Associated Press is reporting that The Hurt Locker producer Nicolas Chartier has apologized for the negative emails he sent out regarding James Cameron’s Avatar. The emails that Chartier wrote asked Academy members to vote for his film instead of, “a $500 million film,” which referenced Avatar and later emails asked voters to rank The Hurt Locker first and Avatar 10th in the new preferential voting system....

On the heels of a year highlighted with industry recognition and critical acclaim for its award-winning original programming including Weeds, Dexter, and Brotherhood, SHOWTIME has ordered a fifth season of its hit drama series The L Word, it was announced today by Robert Greenblatt, President of Entertainment, SHOWTIME Networks Inc. Creator Mike White seems to have struck gold with his hit show The White Lotus. Season 1 of HBO show received a whopping 20 Emmy nominations, including ones for Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series.
