Harry Melling has an impressive resume under his belt—one that includes several Harry Potter films and Netflix’s quarantine hit The Queen’s Gambit—but The Pale Blue Eye writer and director Scott Cooper was unfamiliar with all but one of Melling’s works when he cast the English actor as a young Edgar Allan Poe. “I’d only seen his work as the limbless performer that Liam Neeson carries around the American West in the Coen Brothers’ Ballad of Buster Scruggs....

The final trailer for Netflix’s adaptation of The Sandman has arrived giving the best look yet at the wild array of characters to have left from the pages of Neil Gaiman’s graphic novels. Released following The Sandman panel at San Diego Comic-Con, the trailer delivered the most in depth look at the stunning worlds realized for the series as well as new looks at Tom Sturridge’s Morpheus, Gwendoline Christie as Lucifer Morningstar, Kirby Howell-Baptiste as Death, Jenna Coleman as Constantine, Boyd Holbrook as The Corinthian, as well as a first look at Mark Hamill’s character, Mervyn Pumpkinhead and the voice over of Patton Oswalt as Matthew the Raven....

Just weeks after coming onboard Sony’s Tonight, He Comes, director Gabriele Muccino has left, according to Variety. The movie is still on course to shoot next year with Will Smith starring. Muccino was hired after Jonathan Mostow bowed out due to creative differences. Smith and Muccino had such a strong rapport on the recently completed The Pursuit of Happyness that the Smith was eager to reteam with the Italian director. Once the dust settled and Muccino got into the project, they decided that the story of a superhero in midlife crisis wasn’t for him, and the split was amicable....

The Walking Dead will return in February and now we have a new teaser trailer for the upcoming episodes. AMC decided to extend season 10 of the hit zombie series following the production shutdown that hit Hollywood earlier this year. The current season will get an additional six episodes next year, and the network has released a brief teaser showcasing what’s to come, in addition to confirming the return date....

The Walking Dead has had a rough few years leading up to the arrival of its long goodbye of a three part, 24 episode finale season. Since the arrival of Negan in the show, with the introduction of Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s villain in season six, the series has struggled to match the peak set by his debut episode. Having become a “soap opera with zombies”, things started to pick up again with the Whisperers story line, and season 11A is certainly setting the pace for the final run to bring back some of what made The Walking Dead a good show a decade ago....

AMC has announced that viewers who tune into the Season 4 premiere of Breaking Bad, which airs Sunday, July 17 at 10 PM ET, will be treated to a special sneak peek at Season 2 of The Walking Dead. The news that Henry Cavill will depart the lead role of Geralt in The Witcher and make way for The Hunger Games star Liam Hemsworth to take over has left fans stunned. But showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich isn’t worried, believing that the recasting will imbue the series with a fresh, new energy. Speaking with Total Film, Hissrich is excited for audiences to see Hemsworth take over as Geralt of Rivia. Of course, that’s if audiences will even return once Cavill has walked away following the end of the upcoming third season....

A lot of folks thought this image was fan art when it first made the rounds as a teaser poster late last year. Now it is decorating this novel from Peter David. The term “Hitchcockian” is one of those special terms that doesn’t get thrown around the movie world as much as, oh, “Tarantino-esque,” for one. Perhaps it’s because the word rolls off the tongue nicer than any other filmmaker-homage term in the cinematic canon. Say it aloud. “Hitchcockian.” Pretty sweet, yes? Perhaps it’s just because there aren’t that many people around who are as brilliant as Hitchcock was. I’d vote for both of those suggestions, if it were put to a vote, but the fact remains, it’s rare to find a film that truly lives up to that title, and we absolutely have a film like that in Transsiberian....

HBO has finally pulled the trigger and officially given the green light to True Detective season 3. The critically acclaimed limited series took a step back with season 2, but the network looks to change that by giving creator Nic Pizzolatto another crack at it and by bringing in some new blood. That new blood comes in the form of Oscar-winner Mahershala Ali, who is set to star as the lead in True Detective season 3, along with Jeremy Saulnier, who will help with directing duties....
