Last night’s Season 2 premiere of AMC’s original series, The Walking Dead delivered the strongest telecast for any drama in basic cable history. The season two premiere delivered 4.8 million Adults 18-49 and 4.2 million Adults 25-54 shattering a basic cable record set nearly 10 years ago for a single drama telecast. The program delivered a 4.8 HH rating netting 7.3 million total viewers. These results represent a 36% and 38% increase respectively over season one’s series average on AMC....

The West Wing cast will reunite this fall for an HBO Max special encouraging viewers to vote in this year’s election season. In addition to bringing back its lead cast, the special will also feature series creator Aaron Sorkin and executive producer/director Thomas Schlamme. Dubbed A West Wing Special to Benefit When We All Vote, the show has been organized to raise awareness of the non-profit, nonpartisan organization When We All Vote, and WarnerMedia will be donating to the cause in honor of the special....

Marvel Studios is finally reintroducing characters from the pre-Disney+ Marvel television series in the films. Fans were delighted to see the return of Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock, a.k.a. Daredevil, in Spider-Man: No Way Home. The day before Spider-Man: No Way Home hit theaters, it was revealed that Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin from the Netflix Daredevil series was also the main villain in Hawkeye. It appeared Marvel Studios was setting up a trend of bringing in characters from Marvel television into their films....

Ron Howard is a highly revered cinema mastermind, having been a prominent figure in the entertainment business since he was just five years old. The esteemed visionary successfully transitioned from a child actor to critically acclaimed filmmaker with his directorial debut, the comedy road trip film Grand Theft Auto in 1977. Having made his name as the star of the cult classic sitcoms The Andy Griffith Show and Happy Days, Howard left the latter in 1980 to pursue his dreams of directing and producing and hasn’t looked back since....

TNT has renewed three of its chart-topping summer hits: The Last Ship, Major Crimes and Falling Skies. All three dramas rank among basic cable’s Top 5 scripted series this summer with total viewers and adults 25-54. They have also helped TNT score a significant lead as basic cable’s #1 network in primetime for the summer-to-date. TNT has ordered 13 episodes of The Last Ship, an increase over its Season 1 order of 10 episodes....

A gestating project has just gotten a big bump with a new director and a possible new star. According to Variety, Warner Bros. is readying The 28th Amendment, entering into negotiations with Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck to direct and, possibly, Tom Cruise to star. German filmmaker von Donnersmarck hasn’t directed a picture since his 2006 film The Lives of Others won the Best Foriegn Language Film Oscar, and now he is eyeing up Hollywood projects....

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY This ends a very strange saga over the past few months, which started when actress Trace Lysette, who plays Shea on Transparent, accused Jeffrey Tambor of sexual misconduct back in mid-November. The actor denied any wrongdoing, stating that he was not a “predator” while apologizing for any actions that may have been, “misinterpreted by anyone as being sexually aggressive or if I ever offended or hurt anyone....

DreamWorks Animation and Netflix announced today, to celebrate the release of the third and final Tales of Arcadia series Wizards, that a feature film marking the culmination of Guillermo del Toro’s epic trilogy is currently in production. Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans will debut globally on Netflix in 2021. Arcadia may look like an ordinary town but it lies at the center of magical and mystical lines that makes it a nexus for many battles among otherworldly creatures including trolls, aliens and wizards....

Twentieth Century Fox has picked up screen rights to Mr. Popper’s Penguins, and plans to adapt the beloved 1938 children’s book. The film will be produced by John Davis. According to Variety, Sean Anders and John Morris have been set to write the screenplay. The book, which won the 1939 Newbery Award, is about Mr. Popper, a house painter whose dreams of Arctic exploration prompt him to write letters to real explorers....

Uwe Boll just can’t seem to catch a break, and he’s not shy about letting us know. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Boll is upset at the miniscule theater count his new film Postal is set to receive. While Boll was preparing for a 1,500 theater rollout, the film will bow on Friday in just 15 theaters across the country. The rollout was as low as 4 theaters earlier in the day, however....

On the heels of record-breaking premiere night ratings for both original series, Showtime has picked up new seasons of its hit comedies The Big C and Weeds. Season 2 of The Big C (from Sony Pictures Television) and Weeds (from Lionsgate) will premiere on the network in 2011. The Big C took the country by storm last month as more than 6.5 million people viewed the premiere episode across various platforms, making it the network’s highest-rated original series premiere in 8 years....

2022 was, by and large, a forgettable year for the Western genre. Aside from the pretty good films God’s Country, Dead for a Dollar, Murder at Yellowstone City, and the neo-Western aspects in Jordan Peele’s Nope, which was the year’s standout frontier-based title (and even that received mixed reviews), many a Western film buff out there will almost certainly have left last year unfulfilled by the meager offerings. With the turn of the year, 2023 brings with it a new dawn, and promise of Western titles that get the inner-gunslinger in all of us firing....

When the character of Jack Ryan first appeared in Tom Clancy’s 1984 best-selling novel, The Hunt for Red October, it would have been hard to predict that the fish-out-of-water C.I.A analyst would be brought to cinematic life by some of the most popular actors of the next four decades. And yet there was something incredibly appealing about the story of a plausible hero, someone who used his mind more than his muscles to make the difference that wins the fight....

White Collar was a police procedural drama created by Jeff Eastin, which ran on USA Network for six seasons from 2009 to 2014. The series was led by Matt Bomer as Neal Caffrey, a role that effectively turned him into a household name and kick-started the illustrious career he has today. Overall, White Collar received positive reviews, with praise directed at its plot, pacing, and compelling crime stories. Of course, one of the highlights of the show was its cast....

In the vast annals of cinema history, remakes must surely be the most consistently polarizing of films ever to be made. Though the idea of remaking a film with a recognizable name that will draw in old fans and a new generation of viewers alike must be tantalizing for film studios everywhere, the execution is rarely worth writing home about. This is especially true of horror remakes, with remakes of A Nightmare on Elm Street, Black Christmas, and Poltergeist being among the most disappointing movies ever made....

Low-budget special effects are a classic and signature part of what is known as “campy” horror. While somewhat difficult to define, camp is best understood as something that is cheesy, excessive, and even silly. American critic Susan Sontag, in her 1964 essay Notes on Camp, describes it as “love of the unnatural: of artifice and exaggeration.” There is no genre that loves the unnatural more than horror. The most iconic movie that defined the genre of campy horror is, of course, The Evil Dead....

Last year, a Friends reunion of sorts happened when Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc and David Schwimmer took the stage together during NBC’s TV special paying tribute to iconic director James Burrows. Matthew Perry was the only main cast member not in attendance, since his new play The End of Longing was running in London. But the actor introduced his cast-mates in a special video message. That special was the closest fans had come to a true Friends reunion since the show went off the air in 2004 after 10 seasons and 236 episodes, but for those holding out hope for a full reunion or even a revival of the hit show, don’t be surprised if it never happens....
