Tony Scott’s 1986 classic Top Gun is being converted for a 3D re-release, which may hit theaters early next year. Legend3D is behind the conversion, and the company recently presented a four-minute clip of the converted movie at the International Broadcasting Convention in Amsterdam earlier today. According to Variety, Universal Pictures is partnering again with “40-Year-Old Virgin” Steve Carell. The studio has made a deal with Carell to write his own comic vehicle, which is untitled and based on his original idea. They’ve also bought the Mark Gunn and Brian Gunn pitch “Juvenile.” Both projects will be produced by Mary Parent and Scott Stuber, along with Carell. The deals come as Carell prepares to star for director Tom Shadyac in U’s “Evan Almighty,” a spinoff of the studio’s hit Bruce Almighty....

Tim Burton and Netflix’s Wednesday have been the subject of some online backlash for its casting of Black actors as minor antagonists in the Addams Family series. However, it seems that the opinions of people calling out the show, particularly the director, may have been a little premature. Actress Joy Sunday, who plays Nevermore school’s top mean girl Bianca, has dismissed any such suggestions and expressed how much she enjoyed working with Tim Burton....
HBO has released a full-length trailer for Westworld season 2. The network has been hyping up the new season for awhile now, but they’re being mysterious and secretive, as one would suspect. Directed by the Coen brothers, the black comedy/musical drama was the winner of the Grand Prix at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival. The film followed the titular Llewyn Davis, a struggling New York folk singer in the year 1961. According to The Hollywood Reporter, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button swept all the home video charts for the week ending May 10. The title had very little competition for the week, with just the fellow new release Last Chance Harvey providing little competition. Last Chance Harvey came in second place to The Curious Case of Benjamin Button on the DVD sales charts, but it was quite a distant second with Last Chance Harvey selling just 27% of the units that The Curious Case of Benjamin Button sold....
Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures’ summer smash hit The Hangover has added another milestone to its record-breaking run. On Sunday, July 19th, the Todd Phillips-directed comedy became the top-grossing R-rated comedy of all time, breaking the record previously held by Beverly Hills Cop, which has stood for almost 25 years. To date, the film has earned an astounding estimated $235.9 million and is still drawing large audiences after more than six weeks in release....
