There is no other Japanese animation studio that has as much goodwill in the eye of the public as Studio Ghibli. Spirited Away, often regarded as Miyazaki’s masterpiece, is the second highest-grossing movie in Japan, only being beaten out in 2020 by Demon Slayer the Movie: Mugen Train. However, Spirited Away is not the only achievement in animation and film directed by Miyazaki. Also on his resume are true achievements in animation such as Howl’s Moving Castle, Princess Mononoke, and The Wind Rises....

Within Marvel Comics, the Red Skull is the Joker to Captain America’s Batman. Not only that, but he’s considered an Avengers-level threat. It makes sense as he’s the leader of Hydra, one of the most prolific groups within Marvel. Despite this, the character was made to feel unimportant and forgettable when he was first introduced to the MCU. Hugo Weaving’s portrayal, as good as it was, didn’t stop his character from blasting into the unknown at the end of Captain America: The First Avengers....

Way back in 2014, we reported that Emmett/Furla/Oasis Films and Crystal Lake Entertainment were teaming up to make a new Friday the 13th TV series. A year later, that series ended up at The CW, with The Pretender creators Steven Long Mitchell and Craig W. Van Sickle coming aboard to write the pilot script. There were rumors that this horror series wouldn’t be picked up in April, before The CW’s upfront presentation, and now the network has finally confirmed that they have scrapped plans for this show, and another potential reboot series of Little Women....

Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions (SPWA) and FilmDistrict have partnered with Ghost House Pictures on a worldwide deal - excluding U.K. and France - for Sony Pictures to distribute the remake of The Evil Dead. The announcement was made by Steven Bersch, SPWA President, and Peter Schlessel, CEO of FilmDistrict. Lia Buman, FilmDistrict’s EVP of Acquisitions, will oversee the project. Original producing partners Robert G. Tapert, Bruce Campbell (who also starred in the original franchise) and Sam Raimi will produce....

Lionsgate and the filmmakers of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire are pleased to announce that actress Amanda Plummer has been cast in the role of Wiress in the much anticipated film adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ worldwide smash hit novel Catching Fire. The character’s eccentricity earns her the nickname “Nuts” from fellow tributes, and though she doesn’t communicate traditionally, her observations and contributions prove invaluable in the Quarter Quell. The Wilds follows a group of teenage girls who wind up stranded on a deserted island due to a plane crash, an event that was secretly orchestrated as they are the subjects of a social experiment. Netflix’s The Witcher spin-off series, The Witcher: Blood Origin, has sadly lost its lead, with Queen & Slim star Jodie Turner-Smith departing the role following scheduling issues. It was revealed back in January that Jodie Turner-Smith would play one of the lead roles in the upcoming fantasy show, but now production will need to start looking elsewhere. “Due to a change in the production schedule for The Witcher: Blood Origin limited series, unfortunately Jodie Turner-Smith will no longer be able to continue on in the role of Éile,” said a Netflix representative in a statement....

David Permut, Daniel Sladek and Chris Taaffe have re-united to produce a film based on the life of late civil rights activist Bayard Rustin, according to Variety. The producing trio, which exec produced TV movie Prayers for Bobby, recently consummated the deal with Rustin’s estate. Rustin’s life partner Walter Naegle, who administers the estate, will co-produce along with Permut Presentations VP Steve Longi. Rustin was a strategist and activist promoting nonviolent strategies for social change for more than half a century....

Director Steven Spielberg goes back to his roots with The Fabelmans. The film made its world premiere at Toronto International Film Festival 2022, marking the director’s debut at the institution in his decades-long career. The Fabelmans was first announced as part of TIFF’s line-up in July 2022, per EW. Naturally, Spielberg’s film skyrocketed to the top of almost everyone’s list of the most highly anticipated movies to see, especially after Variety reported a bidding war over the film between other major fall festivals like Venice and Telluride....
