The Hunt is a sledgehammer satire meant to pick at the scabs of partisan division. It’s an ultra-violent, bloody deathmatch between so-called “liberal elites” and the “deplorables” of flyover country. Red states vs blue states, gun control vs gun rights, Fox News vs NPR, you get the drift. The film revels in stereotypes and savagery. The controversy, or hype in my opinion, is much ado about nothing. The Hunt isn’t clever or incisive, but actually entertaining in a gleefully macabre way....

FXX’s hit comedy series The League will return for its seventh and final season with 13 episodes in the fall of 2015, it was announced today by Nick Grad and Eric Schrier, Presidents of Original Programming, FX Networks and FX Productions. The League, which just completed its sixth season, was created by the husband-and-wife team of Jeff Schaffer (Curb Your Enthusiasm, Seinfeld) and Jackie Marcus Schaffer (Disturbia, Eurotrip) who serve as executive producers and directors....

The Weinstein Co. will release the Scott Rudin-produced postwar tale The Reader this year, making it a contender in the Oscar race. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Rudin and Weinstein said in a joint statement on Sunday that Stephen Daldry’s period love story told against the backdrop of a war-crimes trial would come out on Dec. 12, in keeping with the plan that for months Weinstein had supported and Rudin had resisted....

The Vampire Diaries Universe encompasses three shows, and they have several connecting storylines and characters on top of a shared world that link the shows together. However, for as many of the characters may have interacted, there were still a handful of character interactions that never occurred on-screen but should have. For example, while the Mikaelson siblings terrorized Mystic Falls for a while, no one from Mystic Falls met Freya other than Stefan during his brief trip to New Orleans....

One of those tricks is the addition of famous actor/musician Jeff Goldblum, who stars in his own docuseries, which will place him in different situations and have him asking questions about the world around him. Knowing Goldblum, it will more than likely be a pretty interesting show....

One of the most celebrated moments of the year’s biggest film, Top Gun: Maverick, would be the iconic reunion between original Top Gun stars Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer. The impactful scene was brought up in a chat between director Joseph Kosinski and Glass Onion helmer Rian Johnson (per Variety), and it was asked how exactly the scene came to be. In the film, Kilmer’s Iceman is depicted as having throat cancer, a way of working around the actor’s real-life health struggles....

South Africa’s entry in the 2005 Oscars and a finalist for Best Foreign Film is the gritty and disturbing tale of redemption, “Tsotsi”. Based on the novel by Athol Fugard and adapted for the screen by Gavin Hood, Tsotsi, which means “thug” or “gangster”, is a nineteen year old gang leader in the sprawling shanty town of the Johannesburg ghetto. Hardened by a lifetime of loneliness and cruelty, Tsotsi and his band of miscreants rob and kill at will....

An alien abduction movie is in the works from Barack Obama and his production team for Netflix, and given her family connection to the story, professional fighter Angela Hill wants in. Per TMZ, the movie, dubbed White Mountain, will adapt the story told by Barney and Betty Hill, a couple who claimed to have been abducted by extra-terrestrial visitors in New Hampshire in the fall of 1961. Their story is among the country’s most famous alien encounter claims, often referred to as the “Hill Abduction....

So, the report is in that Bionic Womanhas been canceled. And I can only say “Dang it, already?” There are those who will criticize the show, and not unfairly, saying that it had weak plots, suffered from inconsistencies in tone, and that Michelle Ryan was frequently overshadowed by her fellow Bionic Woman, Katee Sackhoff. I won’t say they’re wrong either - the show was clearly still finding its feet. But it showed potential, and despite declining audiences I think that each episode was better than the one before it....

Universal Studios Home Entertainment today delivered the first of its much anticipated next generation High Definition DVD (HD DVD) titles, marking the official arrival of the superior-quality offerings in stores nationwide. Futuristic action-adventure Serenity is the first in the progressive rollout of flagship titles available in the new format. Doom and Apollo 13 are slated to follow on April 25, 2006, with Cinderella Man, Jarhead and Assault on Precinct 13 hitting shelves on May 9, 2006....

An unmade Tales from the Crypt movie, Dead Easy, will receive a table read for charity. The charity will be the Motion Picture & Television Fund (MPTF), which supports working and retired entertainment community members with a safety net of health and social services. The film was intended to be part of a trilogy of feature-length films, which ended up consisting of, in order, Demon Knight, Bordello of Blood, and Ritual....

Vertigo Films is developing the 3D live-action film Horrid Henry, based on Francesca Simon’s literary character. According to Variety, the book character is the second most successful children’s character in the U.K. (behind Harry Potter) with book sales of more than 16 million in the territory. Simon’s books are available in 27 countries and have been translated into 27 languages. The story will follow Horrid Henry waging his ever constant battle against the tyranny of adults as he forms an unlikely alliance with his little brother Perfect Peter and girl-next-door Moody Margaret....

Voltron fans were welcomed by the ominous voice of Prince Lotor imploring all enthusiastic panel attendees to take their seats before a screening of the premiere episode of season 3 of the critically acclaimed Netflix original series DreamWorks Voltron Legendary Defender at this morning’s SDCC panel. The 2200 capacity Room 6BCF was filled and the episode screening was met with cheers and wild applause. Executive producer Joaquim Dos Santos revealed that Season 3 will debut on Netflix on August 4th with seven episodes to be followed in October by Season 4 with six more all-new episodes....

The first trailer for Jared Padalecki’s Walker reboot has arrived. The Supernatural star is taking the reins from Chuck Norris, who starred in Walker, Texas Ranger from 1993 to 2001. Padalecki plays Cordell Walker, a man finding his way back to his family while investigating crime in the state’s most elite unit. The broken widower and father of two returns home to Austin after being undercover for two years for a high profile case - only to discover that there’s even more work to be done at home....

The pair ends up in a utopia-like new settlement with an eccentric leader. As usual, The Walking Dead has a lighter episode following the gut-punching tragedy of the premiere. The season is already coming into focus as the world no longer revolves around the Alexandrians....

Remember when Rick and his surrogate family of survivors were stuck on that farm for what seemed like an eternity way back in Season 2? Oh, how things have changed over the past few years! The Walking Dead has turned into a rolling riot over the course of seven seasons, and now, we’re lucky if an episode stops to catch its breath.
