These tales frequently had a goal beyond mere amusement; they aimed to educate folks about something. Occasionally the lesson was represented by a beast or mythical creatures, such as a mermaid or dragon. There have been many great foreign monster movies and another of these legends is resurrected in the recent movie from Netflix, Troll....

AMC released today a trailer for its highly anticipated new scripted drama, Turn, which premieres in spring 2014. Turn is a layered, character-driven spy thriller set during the American Revolutionary War. Based on remarkable new research featured in the book “Washington’s Spies,” by Alexander Rose, the untold story of America’s first spies has finally been decoded and declassified. Turn tells the tale of Abe Woodhull (Jamie Bell), a farmer living behind enemy lines in British-occupied Long Island, who bands together with a group of childhood friends to form The Culper Ring, an unlikely team of secret agents who would help turn the tide of the war in favor of the Rebels....

Video game site Joystiq recently spoke with Uncharted 3 video game director Justin Richmond, who gave more details on the upcoming David O. Russell adaptation Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune. We reported earlier this month from a Los Angeles Times interview with David O. Russell that the movie would involve a family aspect, with Nathan Drake and his entire clan fighting for justice. Apparently, Russell debunked his own quotes shortly thereafter: Richmond also revealed that Mark Wahlberg isn’t confirmed to star as Nathan Drake either, despite a report last month that he was signed onto this video game adaptation....

Relativity Media, LLC (RML) announced today that Vincenzo Natali (Cube) will direct the feature film Tunnels. Natali’s recent film, Splice, premiered at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival. Tunnels will be the film adaptation of the first installment of the New York Times best-selling children’s series by first-time authors Roderick Gordon and Brian Williams. The book was originally optioned by RML in 2007. The project is being produced by Ryan Kavanaugh, Mark Canton, Danny Davids and Neil Canton....

While we know someone was killed by Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) in the Season 6 finale of The Walking Dead, we won’t know the victim’s identity until the Season 7 premiere debuts Sunday, October 23 at 9 P ET on AMC. There are two characters we know for sure won’t be killed, Carol (Melissa McBride) and Morgan (Lennie James), because they simply weren’t part of the group lined up by Negan....

It seems that Warner Bros. is still backing one of its more troubled films. According to L.A. Times, studio chief Alan Horn is still committed to Where the Wild Things Are. “We’ve given him more money and, even more importantly, more time for him to work on the film,” Horn said. “We’d like to find a common ground that represents Spike’s vision but still offers a film that really delivers for a broad-based audience....

Warner Bros. Television returns to New York Comic Con with two hit shows both produced locally in the New York area: last season’s #1 new series The Following and acclaimed third-season crime thriller Person of Interest. Those holding out hope for more Watchmen on HBO need not hold their breath. Series creator Damon Lindelof has remained adamant that season 2 will not happen, at least not with his involvement. The show’s massive night at the Emmys recently didn’t change his tune any. If anything, it only served to make Lindelof more steadfast in his stance on the matter. Star Regina King is likely out as well, as she’s only interested if Lindelof is on board....

Pop culture’s creepiest and kookiest family is coming back to the small screen in Wednesday, a new series adaptation of The Addams Family that’s in the works at Netflix. With Tim Burton in the director’s chair, the project marks the small screen directorial debut for the famous filmmaker who’d previously turned down helming the original live-action film. Al Gough and Miles Millar, the creators of Smallville, also created Wednesday and serve as showrunners....

Veteran moviemaker Wes Craven, whose genre landmarks include the Scream trilogy and the A Nightmare On Elm Street franchise, will make his next film as director for Rogue Pictures. With HBO’s decision to suddenly pull the plug on its critically-acclaimed series Westworld ahead of its planned fifth and final season, fans are banding together with calls to #SaveWestworld. The dystopian science fiction series, created by Jonathan Nolan and Joy, began in 2016 and ran for four seasons on HBO. The creators previously shared that they had always intended to end Westworld after five seasons, and until Friday, it seemed that the show would run its intended course....

Back in January, TNT announced that the iconic horror TV series Tales From the Crypt will be rebooted as part of the network’s new horror block curated by M. Night Shyamalan. Back in April, the network revealed that the show isn’t expected to debut until late 2017. But earlier this week, rumors surfaced that this new project may be in trouble, if not completely dead. Shortly after that report, a TNT representative confirmed that the project is still happening, while explaining why there hasn’t been much progress thus far....

Stallone and crew deliver a hard-hitting, unrepentant action extravaganza. A fellow critic cohort called The Expendables the ‘anti-Sex & The City’ as we walked out of the theater. He’s pretty much nailed it. This is a testosterone fueled kick for the true fans, the purists, the connoisseurs who expect to see the legends of action rack up a serious body count....

The latest trailer for HBO’s The Last of Us has officially been released, giving viewers another look at Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey in the lead roles of Joel and Ellie. The series is based upon the video game franchise of the same name, adapted to the small screen by Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin alongside Neil Druckmann, the creator of the original video game series. The show will closely follow the plot of the games, with Joel being hired to transport Ellie across the country in search of a cure, as Ramsey’s character is immune to the zombie infection that plagues the rest of the world....

This perception of sci-fi movies has made the genre into a heartless and firm concept, most of the time completely devoid of emotions. In the hit TV series The Office, the emotional and dramatic arcs for many of the characters change, and they can go from being bullying, self-titled, and completely unsympathetic to actually likable and good-hearted people, and vice versa. From the outset, the show seems to indicate that, aside from his love interest Pam, Jim Halpert is the only ‘cool’ and ’normal’ person in this wacky office. Jim seems friendly, helpful, and charming, but what if he is not a nice guy at all?...
