Yesterday we reported that The Hunger Games might feature either Jennifer Lawrence or Hailee Steinfeld as Katniss Everdeen. Today, Lionsgate confirmed that while both actresses have read for the lead role, there are no front runners at this time. The report from yesterday indicated that Jennifer Lawrence is negotiating a deal with the studio, which Lionsgate revealed is untrue. The studio revealed that over 30 well-known actresses have already read for the lead role....

I was seven years old when the original version of The Karate Kid hit theaters and, like many my age, I was compelled to take karate lessons, likely with the hope that an eccentric old Japanese man would teach me how to catch flies with chopsticks and stand up to neighborhood bullies in black, sleeveless gi’s. The CW has acquired Bell Media’s original Canadian drama The L.A. Complex, a six-part hour-long drama about the lives of six, sexy young performers pursuing their dreams in Hollywood. The L.A. Complex will have its U.S. premiere on The CW later this spring; it premieres in Canada on CTV and MuchMusic tonight, 9:00-10:00 p.m. ET. The L.A. “The Men Who Stare At Goats” is an absurd comedy that borders on genius. Its all-star cast and clever script had me laughing silly throughout. Ewan McGregor stars as Michigan journalist Bob Wilton. Dumped by his fiancé for his one-armed boss, Wilton decides to go to Iraq to pursue real journalism. Hoping to imbed with the invading US troops, Wilton gets stuck at a hotel in Kuwait where he happens upon Lyn Cassady (George Clooney)....

Indie film distributor GKIDS announced today that their award-winning animated feature The Secret of Kells by director Tomm Moore has received an Academy Award Nomination for Best Animated Feature. All other nominees in the category were major studio releases from Fox, Disney/Pixar and Universal. A viral, word-of-mouth Oscar campaign eschewed all paid advertising and capitalized on audience passion to create a groundswell of support for The Secret of Kells. The nomination is a major accomplishment in a year with so many well-regarded commercial animated releases....

It seems the diminutive blue CGI creatures have found their leader’s voice. UGO is reporting that comedy legend Jonathan Winters has been cast to voice Papa Smurf in The Smurfs. The 84-year-old actor hasn’t appeared in a film since 2006, but is widely regarded as a comedy icon. Raja Gosnell is directing from a script by J. David Stem, David N. Weiss and Audrey Wells. In other The Smurfs news, Spoiler TV has gotten a hold of a casting call for the film, which confirms that these tiny blue characters will be interacting with humans....

The Walking Dead promoted actors Chad Coleman (Tyreese), Sonequa Martin-Green (Sasha), and Emily Kinney (Beth) to series regulars for Season 4. The news comes just days after the AMC series announced that David Morrissey will return as The Governor in a series regular role. The show also announced that Melissa Ponzio will be a recurring guest star as Karen, the lone survivor of The Governor’s massacre in the Season 3 finale, “Welcome to the Tombs”....

But, this week has brought us something else as well. I’ve been meaning to expand the column for awhile now, but wasn’t sure what I wanted to expand it with. Then not too long ago, whilst I was visiting the lovely MovieWeb Forums, I came across a thread that I started over three years ago and is still alive and kicking with 301 pages!...

Just didn’t get the entertainment value in this shoddily produced flick about a doofus who gets a random invitation to a Murder Party on Halloween Eve… and decides to go, ultimately finding out that he is the one to be murdered....

A George Michael biopic is reportedly moving forward with Theo James. Per The Daily Mail, James, who recently appeared in the second season of The White Lotus, has been tapped to play Michael in a new biopic about the late singer. According to the report, James hasn’t officially signed on but is said to be the favorite for the role. With a budget that will cost upwards of $100 million, the plan is for the movie to cover Michael’s career from his Wham!...

Comedy legend and Hollywood perennial Tim Conway has sadly passed away. The former star of the Carol Burnett Show was 85 at the time of his death. Conway succumbed to a longterm illness. The news comes from head of LaBrea Medai Howard Bragman. Tim Conway is perhaps best known for his starring role on the sketch variety series The Carol Burnett Show. He won 4 Emmy Awards for his work on the TV comedy....

Superman definitely exists in the Titans universe, as revealed on the season 1 finale of the DC Universe series. For those unaware, the series is the first original live-action show for the DC Universe streaming service. It establishes its own new canon, with no relation to the Arrowverse or the movies in the DCEU. Although the show focuses on Robin, Starfire, Raven, and Beast Boy, it has included some other DC characters....

Thirteen year-old Perth native Troye Mellet will play the role of the younger Logan in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. The Sydney Times has said that the youngster earned the role of playing the young version of the character made famous by Hugh Jackman in the X-Men films thanks, in part, to YouTube videos of him singing. After seeing the YouTube videos, Mellet was asked to submit an audition tape which earned him the role....

Turner Broadcasting has just announced they picked up the television rights to 10,000 B.C., The Dark Knight, Speed Racer, Get Smart, Yes Man and Body of Lies. According to Variety, the package deal comes from Warner Bros. Domestic Cable TV. The package deal goes beyond pre-released films and also includes I Am Legend, Fred Claus, The Bucket List, TMNT and the animated film The Ant Bully. “Movies are a key part of the programming lineup on TNT and TBS,” said Ken Schwab, senior VP of programming for the two networks....

Guillermo del Toro will direct Universal Pictures’ Hellboy 2: The Golden Army, which will continue the exploits of the humanoid hero from Hell and his partners in the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Development. Hellboy 2: The Golden Army, a Lawrence Gordon/Lloyd Levin production in association with Dark Horse Entertainment, will begin principal photography in April 2007 in Budapest and London, with pre- and post-production based in London. The film will be released worldwide in the summer of 2008....
