With all eyes on The Batman at the moment, you could be forgiven for missing the new trailer for the return of The CW’s Batwoman, which continues its third season in January. The latest promo gives a quick-cut look at the new villains and more coming to the series when it drops new episodes, including a teasing look at Bridget Regan’s Poison Ivy/Pamela Isley. As one of the Batman universes most iconic villains, the reveal has given fans their best look yet at the latest iteration of the character to arrive on screen.

The latest season of Batwoman has brought a number of troubles to Ryan Wilder’s doorstep, with Mary Hamilton having been infected by the former Poison Ivy’s plants and turning from close ally to villain being just one of the problems Javicia Leslie’s heroine has had to deal with. The new footage certainly doesn’t make it look like the second half of the season is going to be any easier. We also get a better look at Marquis Jet, played by Nick Creegan, who as the vice-president of Jeturian Industries has taken over Wayne Enterprises and having made a number of references to making everyone smile, and a certain laugh included in the end of the trailer, it looks like Poison Ivy may well have a new Joker rising to power alongside her.

With Luke Fox being held hostage by Jet, who seems to be certainly heading down the road to take over the crown of as the Clown Prince of Gotham, and Batwoman attempting to save Mary from the clutches of Ivy’s poison, it has taken a while for the series to address some of the iconic villains of the DC Batman canon but now we are arriving at a point when it is once again time to see what new actors can bring to the villains we most love to hate.

Batwoman originated from an Arrowverse crossover “Elseworlds” in which Ruby Rose appeared as Kate Kane, a cousin of Batman’s Bruce Wayne, who decided to step in for the Caped Crusader in his absence. The show gained a series order, but after the first season’s debut in 2019, Rose quit the series, and later spoke out about the working conditions on the set including abusive behavior by co-stars and corner cutting in the production that she partly blamed for injuries she and others sustained during stunt work.

When the series returned for its second season, Javicia Leslie took over the Batwoman role with original character Ryan Wilder as the herione’s alter ego, and has continued into Season 3. Despite the soft-reboot after Rose’s departure, the mixed reviews of the first season were replaced by much more positive ones for the second, resulting in a 89% approval rate on Rotten Tomatoes. While fans now eagerly await the return of the show in a few weeks’ time, it certainly looks like The CW are once again upping the ante and are not about to disappoint with the conclusion of the third season.
