The Dragon Prince is a fantasy series that was created for Netflix and comes from the minds of Aaron Ehasz (head writer and executive producer of the hit 2000s animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender) and Justin Richmond. It premiered in 2018 and has so far been running for three seasons. Despite a substantial delay, season four is, per CBR, expected to release on the streaming platform later this year.
The Dragon Prince has been praised for its animation style, themes, and vocal performances. Forbes, in fact, called season three “one of the best fantasy shows on TV.” The series features characters from all walks of fantastical life, from elves and dragons to everything in between. Indeed, characters are a main focus of the series, and, across intersecting storylines, they develop strong bonds with each other. Since characters are so important to The Dragon Prince, we’ve ranked the best ones.

8 Viren
Wonderstorm / Netflix
Viren is a former advisor to King Harrow and a practitioner of dark magic. His schemes have created a lot of the conflict in the series so far, and we often see him make huge decisions that have a very real impact under the guise of doing what is best for humanity. He believes in the nobility of his actions, and this causes him to make some questionable choices, which can negatively impact other characters. However, his character has a charm, and he is definitely one of the more interesting ones in the series.

7 Bait
Bait is the companion of Ezran and is always sporting a grumpy expression. He, however, also has more depth than we usually see in animal sidekick characters. He has developed a connection with Zym, which moves initially from jealousy to affection. Bait proves to be smarter than the villains of the series, regularly using powers for good to help against opponents like Viren.
6 Claudia
Claudia is Soren’s 16-year-old sister, who is much more appealing in her personality than Soren is, lacking his cockiness. She has a bubbly nature and an interest in magic. She has a connection to the dark side through her connection to Viren, however, her sense of humor and light nature always shine the strongest.
5 Soren
Soren is Viren’s son and is more magnetic and charismatic than his father. He exudes a charm and kind spirit that make him much more appealing. He is the youngest member of the Crownguard and regularly used humor in his characterization, which makes him a very likable character. Soren ha a strong moral compass and we see his character face internal conflict regarding his relationships with his father compared to those with Callum, Rayla and Ezran.
4 Amaya
General Amaya is an aunt to Callum and Ezran, and is the Commander for Katolis’ Standing Batallion. She cares deeply about her family and through her, we learn more about Callum and Sarai’s lives. Her character is deaf, which adds an element of representation that is more often than not left out of the fantasy genre.
3 Prince Ezran
Ezran is one of the younger characters in the series, however, he still has a strong character and is very likable. He has a connection to animals, which introduces a new power to the universe, and, true to his status as Prince, we see him act with honor, valor, and compassion.
2 Prince Callum
Prince Callum is the series’ protagonist, and his optimistic nature makes him extremely likable, paired with his sense of humor which comes in handy in some of the tougher moments in the show. His developing relationship with Rayla also adds layers to his character, which make him more appealing. He is a skilled mage, and this results in him becoming a leader who is receptive to the needs of others. He is a truly likable protagonist and an overall high point of the series.
1 Rayla
Rayla trains under Aaravos to become a moonshadow elf assassin, and we see her struggle internally with inflicting violence and causing hurt to others. She is the main female protagonist, and we see her kindness shine through in all of her actions, particularly towards Callum and Ezran. She has a strong sense of justice and uses her intelligence to solve problems, and generally is the most admirable character in the whole series.
