The renewal comes ahead of The Expanse season 5 premiere this December. Actor Cas Anvar, who faced sexual misconduct allegations recently, will not be returning. The rest of the main cast, as well as showrunner Naren Shankar, will return. Season 6 is expected to begin filming in January. Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson, executive producers of the series, had this to say.

The series is based on the series of novels by author James S.A. Corey. The show takes place in the future after humans have colonized space. As political tensions between Earth, Mars and “the Belt” arise the greatest conspiracy of all time is uncovered. Season 5 sees the crew of the Rocinante In different parts of the Solar System. Their allies confront the sins of their past, while Marco Inaros unleashes an attack that will alter the future for, not only Earth, Mars, and the Belt, but worlds beyond the Ring as well.
