The Flash on The CW its speeding towards its conclusion, set to end with its ninth and final season. For showrunner and executive producer Eric Wallace, it’s the end of an era, but that doesn’t mean he wants to move on from DC adaptations. In fact, he’s already eyeing Swamp Thing as the project he’d love to be a part of next after garnering acclaim with his work on The Flash, perhaps hoping that will help put him in the running.
Speaking about the DCU with TVLine, Wallace commented on the separate movie version of The Flash that’s coming to theaters this summer. While the film follows Ezra Miller’s verison of Barry Allen, Wallace says in the interview he’ll still be “the first person in line” to buy a ticket, loving “all things Flash.” But once his TV series reaches its end this year, Wallace says he hopes to get involved with the Swamp Thing movie that was recently announced by James Gunn and Peter Safran. Swamp Thing Gets Rebooted for the DCU
DC Comics
There’s not a lot that’s yet been revealed about Swamp Thing, but Gunn and Safran have described the reboot as a film that will “investigate the dark origins” of the character. But while this is going to be a much darker film compared to the other movies announced for the DCU, the idea is to still have this Swamp Thing crossing over with the other DC characters, with Gunn comparing this “mashup quality” to seeing Rocket Raccoon and Chris Hemsworth’s Thor rubbing shoulders in the Avengers films.
“This is a much more horrific film, but we’ll still have Swamp Thing interact with the other characters,” Gunn has said.
The Swamp Thing movie does not yet have a premiere date, and it’s not yet clear when production will start, but James Mangold (Logan) is rumored to be in talks for directing. As for The Flash, the ninth and final season of the TV show debuts on Feb. 8, while the movie starring Ezra Miller hits theaters on June 16, 2023. The first trailer for the film will be released during the Super Bowl.
