Earlier this year, a photo of The Good Fight actress Christine Baranski seemingly aiming daggers in Elon Musk’s direction at the 2022 Met Gala went viral. Easy to surmise considering the actress is a natural when it comes to sarcastic wit whether her use of lines or expression. Consider her recurring role in The Big Bang Theory as Leonard’s maternally lacking mom Dr. Beverly Hofstadter.
However, in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Baranski said she didn’t glare at the billionaire intentionally, adding that she couldn’t remember when the viral moment occurred and spent a separate part of the evening “dissing him.” Baranski continued:
“The funny thing is I have no memory of turning back and glaring at him, but I was actually dissing him as I was waiting in line to go to dinner. I was with someone who was at my table, and I noticed Elon Musk and I went, ‘Oh my God, it’s Elon Musk.’ I basically said [to my friend], ‘I don’t know how you feel about him, but why is he spending billions of dollars in space when he could be cleaning up the planet?’ I’m an environmentalist. I must have at some point turned back and looked, but I did not pose for that picture.”

Baranski also told the outlet that she generally has a low opinion of billionaires and has been happy to let out some of her frustration toward them in The Good Fight on a Musk-esque character, Neil Gross (John Benjamin Hickey). Gross is the founder of a giant tech company. The actress, who plays lawyer and liberal activist Diane Lockhart, said:
The viral image that was taken by photographer Sinna Nasseri went viral on social media with fans praising Baranski for her facial expression. One person tweeted:
“We have our own Elon Musk in ‘The Good Fight.’ Neil Gross is in the second-to-last episode. And I get to bash the billionaires a bit. I’ve added a few lines [to the script], and I actually will include Elon Musk in the final episode.”
After the gala, Baranski’s daughter gave her mother a framed print of the photo. The 70-year-old shared her reaction to the gift on Twitter, where she could be seen with a smile on her face and laughing hysterically.
“Christine Baranski gets it. Imagine becoming a meme during your first Met, she’s so iconic.”
“The Good Fight” Season 6 premieres on Paramount+ on Sept. 8.
