Fans have eagerly anticipated news from The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, as it was noticeably absent from recent Marvel Studios panels. The project, from director James Gunn, has been relatively scarce with details outside of the main cast returning. Rumors suggested a trailer for the Holiday Special was imminent, however, a first look has recently leaked ahead of an official reveal, leading to the trailer’s early arrival.

The GOTG Holiday Special trailer is available in its entirety had spread across social media, although James Gunn has since shared the video on his Twitter account. Disney+ appears to have another hit on its hands following the success of the Halloween special, Werewolf By Night. It was the first time Marvel Studios tried something outside of a regular TV series, movie, or short, and fans responded to the project quite well, as it received favorable reviews.

Now, in the GOTG Holiday Special, fans can see Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, and the rest of the team reunite with a special guest. Kevin Bacon appears to have a prominent role within the project, as Bautista’s Drax and Pom Klementieff’s Mantis want to “deliver” the actor to Pratt’s Star-Lord as a gift, just in time for the Christmas Holiday. The Holiday Special looks to be a ton of fun, with a ludicrous plot that plays into the strengths of the characters who were first introduced during their titular 2014 outing. The trailer concludes with an official release date, which One Take News further corroborated. The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special is set to stream exclusively on Disney+, releasing on Nov. 25.

James Gunn Says the GOTG Holiday Special is ‘Ridiculous’

James Gunn is the filmmaker behind the first two Guardians of the Galaxy installments and the upcoming third chapter in the franchise. So, of course, Marvel would want Gunn back for the long-awaited Holiday Special, and his previous statements match with what was seen in the trailer.

During an interview with RadioTimes, the director discussed the latest outing from everyone’s favorite cosmic superhero group and why the plot is “totally ridiculous,” calling it the “greatest thing I’ve ever done in my life.”

Though Gunn doesn’t believe the wait to be too long, it certainly felt like it. Audiences have been waiting for another project focused on the characters since Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2, released in 2017. However, despite the numerous appearances across different franchises, including Thor and a series of shorts centered on Groot, Guardians fans have been severely lacking some time with the otherworldly heroes. The third feature film in the franchise, The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, is set for release next year, arriving on May 5, 2023.
