10 Hannah’s Torture Box

     MGM Television

Though nearly all episodes featuring Hannah are agonizing to see, this one was especially trying since it completely dispels any moral facade that Gilead has established around the youngsters. Although it should come as no shocker that Gilead will be ready to subject a kid to mental torture in order to force her mother to comply with their pressures. It is heart-wrenching to see Hannah throughout this circumstance. Consider the possibility that Hannah may have been so brainwashed by her nation that she couldn’t recognize or is frightened of her biological mother. It was comparable to the most heart-wrenching psychological thriller flicks.

9 Janine’s Death Sentence

It’s challenging to comprehend the depths of brutality in this critical episode. The effort to make the handmaids murder someone of their own group seems to be a unique form of psychological torture, even though compelling them to kill criminals is horrifying enough by itself. The fact that Janine was executed only a short time after attempting suicide, and Gilead took valiant measures to assist in her recovery makes the entire situation even more ludicrous. It’s awful that they were prepared to expend every bit of time and effort to brutally murder her. The sequence is among the most disturbing to watch.

8 June’s Last Ceremony

Even in the best-case scenario, the ceremony is horrific. When June annoys Serena and Fred in the final stages of her pregnancy, they both come up with this “ceremony” that is really just a ruse to assault her in retaliation. Although Serena pretends ostensibly to want to start June’s labor, it is clear what her genuine motivations are.

Since it demonstrated the actual misery of these rituals, the episode was difficult to watch. Even as June pleads with Serena and Fred to hold back, they push her to the ground. Although they try to conceal themselves behind faith and rationale, this sequence once more shreds the pretense around handmaids and reveals the most odious features of Gilead civilization. Viewers wondered how June and Serena’s stories end, but this episode certainly made the audience shudder with fear.

7 Eden’s Execution

Gilead, in spite of its perceived fascination with children, believes that its residents abandoned childhood extremely early. Hence, they are perfectly content to expose them to various adult activities, including marriage and murder.

Eden and Nick’s union was destined to fail, yet for many considerations, it’s hard to see her die. Firstly, she was quite young and naïve, as seen by her youthful Romeo and Juliet fantasies that even included a readiness to “die for love.” Secondly, it is unimaginable that there were so many individuals present when these kids died. Finally, it’s heartbreaking to understand that Eden was simply in this predicament in the first place because her dad handed her over to the police.

6 Janine Has Her Eye Removed

Gilead intended to make it known that they were determined when they ousted America and formed an extreme rule. They also brutally punished the freshly consecrated handmaids for misbehaving as a part of the reasons they frightened them.

Aunt Lydia made the decision to serve Janine as a lesson for the group and has her eye removed as a penalty for her disobedience to handmaid education before the majority of the ladies even realized what kind of scenario they were already in. Everyone present, including Janine, was traumatized by the event. Madeline Brewer played the role of Janine. Madeline Brewer also discusses her own abortion after her role in The Handmaid’s Tale.

5 Nick And Eden Get Married

There were several reasons why Nick and Eden’s wedding was unsettling. First of all, it was motivated by Fred and Serena’s desire to leave June as unhappy and lonely as possible because they saw that they were developing a bond. Secondly, neither Nick nor Eden had any say in their wedding because Nick was a grownup and Eden was a teenager. It was uncomfortable to watch Nick understand that he was tying the knot without his consent, and the act of consummation of their nuptials was revolting even by Handmaid’s Tale standards. Almost every minute of their partnership was cringe-worthy.

4 Rings In The Mouth

It’s safe to assume that most audiences don’t anticipate scary movie jump shocks in The Handmaid’s Tale because it’s a dystopian thriller. But despite exploring so many nightmare scenarios, the series still succeeded in startling viewers when it first showed the women with rings binding their lips. Even if it was reasonable to expect Washington, D.C. to be a far more extreme case of Gilead, the fact that the handmaids were literally prevented from talking or incapable of opening their lips was a shocking instance of state brutality that also disturbed June. It certainly gives it a spot among the most brutal series ever.

3 Serena Gets Beaten By Fred

Serena is a really troublesome personality who is hard to empathize with since she herself has been such a terrible abuser. Nevertheless, it is far more difficult to see this episode due to Fred’s cruel treatment of her and the overall circumstances.

The reality that Serena bypassed him to permit a lady doctor to assist a baby enraged Fred to the extent that he employs extremely brutal physical punishment upon her. Even though it is obvious that he has no issue with the laws being broken while they are being overseen by him. Even if his acts were harsh, it is troubling because they were motivated by Serena’s efforts to aid a young child. The series is equal to any of Netflix’s darkest shows to watch.

2 Torment of Esther Keyes

It had long been clear that females in every social class could experience dreadful mistreatment, but Esther Keyes made the point crystal clear. She was initially a wife who was regularly sexually assaulted in order to become pregnant by a number of men, and when she became disruptive, she was downgraded to handmaid duties. Also, without hesitation, Commander Putnam sexually assaulted this child, which culminated in a pregnancy. Esther was chastised for her attempted suicide, and Aunt Lydia made the implication that Esther might have done anything to catch Commander Putnam’s eye. It’s difficult to think of someone who has endured more hardship than Esther.

1 Emily Gets Mutilated

What Gilead commits to LGBTQ+ people is given much more attention in the TV show The Handmaid’s Tale. The idea that Emily’s companion was hanged so sloppily and carelessly was nearly more upsetting than what transpired with Emily subsequently. Anything to do with Emily’s ordeal is unpleasant. She undergoes genital mutilation after witnessing the death of her girlfriend in a pretended effort to conceal or alter her sexual identity. As always, Gilead presents this as being part of God’s plan, even though it is obviously just a vile punishment.
