Last night, during The CW special DC Films Presents: Dawn of the Justice League, the second trailer for Warner Bros.’ highly-anticipated Suicide Squad was released, offering fans the first new footage since the first trailer debuted at Comic Con. If the positive buzz swirling around this super-villain adaptation is any indication, then this August 5 release could end up being one of this year’s biggest hits at the box office. Today we have a brand new gallery of high-resolution trailer images so you can break down this incredible footage frame-by-frame.
The all-star ensemble cast for Suicide Squad includes Will Smith (Deadshot), Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Jared Leto (The Joker), Jai Courtney (Boomerang), Joel Kinnaman (Rick Flagg), Cara Delevingne (Enchantress), Viola Davis (Amanda Waller), Karen Fukuhara (Katana) Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Killer Croc), and Jay Hernandez (El Diablo), who are all featured on this poster. It’s worth noting that The Joker is not pictured with the rest of the group, standing by himself off to the side. Created by Robert Kanigher and Ross Andru for DC Comics in 1959, the Suicide Squad follows a group of super villains tasked by the U.S. Government to pull off a secret mission. The catch is that is will be nearly impossible, and most of them, if not all, will return in body bags. If they make it out alive, they will be rewarded their freedom.
MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY
Just hours before the special aired, Warner Bros. released a new poster which featured all of Task Force X assembled together, although The Joker was pictured off to the side, far from the rest of the group. During the special, DC’s Geoff Johns revealed that The Joker isn’t really an active member of the Suicide Squad, but we still don’t know a whole lot about how he fits into the story. There have been rumors that he spends most of the movie in a jail cell, but that he also has a major role to play in a massive prison riot at the end of the movie.
It has been well-documented that Jared Leto stayed in character the entire time production was under way, with director David Ayer recently revealing that many cast and crew members kept themselves at a distance from the actor. Jared Leto’s Joker will be the first iteration of the character shown on the big screen since the late Heath Ledger’s performance in 2008’s The Dark Knight. We’ll have to wait and see if fans respond to Jared Leto’s version as much as they did with Heath Ledger’s iconic portrayal.
David Ayer directs from his own screenplay, with a supporting cast that includes Scott Eastwood, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Ike Barinholtz, Ray Olubowale, Alex Meraz, Jim Parrack and Common. Suicide Squad is set for release on August 5, 2016, just a few months after Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theaters next March. Check out the latest images from the brand new Suicide Squad trailer and stay tuned for more footage and photos as we get closer to this summer release.
