Ridley Scott isn’t looking for criticism of his past movies when doing interviews to promote his newest feature, as one journalist recently found out first hand. Scott has been recently promoting The Last Duel, a movie that has been very much impressing critics even if it didn’t exactly light the box office on fire. A clip from one interview, which has since gone viral and is floating around on social media, saw the journalist comparing the realism in The Last Duel with some of the 84-year-old’s previous movies, and that’s when the conversation went off the rails. You can watch the clip below.

In the clip, the interviewer begins to ask Scott a question by stating, “It’s a very realistic film. It looks more realistic than Kingdom of Heaven or Robin Hood." Before he can get further with his question, Ridley Scott immediately cuts him off with a barrage of F-bombs before then encouraging to simply move along to the next question. The journalist in the video can be seen laughing off the comments, but that doesn’t make it any less awkward. As Scott tells him in the footage:

While this may have been meant to praise Scott’s work on The Last Duel, as it pertains to the movie’s realism, the director doesn’t seem happy that it came at the expense of his prior work. Ridley Scott is clearly still proud of his work on movies like Kingdom of Heaven and Robin Hood and wasn’t standing for the insinuation that they’re unrealistic. The response isn’t all that surprising to hear either, as Scott is a pretty opinionated person. He recently blamed millennials and their cell phones for why The Last Duel didn’t do better at the box office.

Ridley Scott also reiterated how proud he is of The Last Duel, as he is with all of his work, regardless of any potential box office failures. He explained how he always makes sure he’s happy with the final product before moving on. That insight makes it a little more clear as to why he reacted as he did over what could be taken as subtle shots at Kingdom of Heaven and Robin Hood.

The Last Duel is now available on VOD while Scott’s newest movie, House of Gucci, is playing in theaters. Scott has teased that extended cuts of both movies will also “probably” be made.
