The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is going all out for San Diego Comic-Con, with the panel including an orchestra and operatic chorus from composer Bear McCreary. Deadline reported from SDCC, confirming The Lord of the Rings super-fan and The Late Show host Stephen Colbert moderated the session.
The new trailer focuses on some peaceful times within Middle-earth, but all is not well in the civilization of Númenor. As seen in the trailer, the series will look at the forging of the rings: Seven for the dwarves, nine for the mortal men, and one for the dark lord. The Rings of Power is inspired by J.R.R. Tolkien’s extended notes in the appendices of his novels.

‘The depth of the text and implied text is what is extraordinary about the professor," said Colbert. ‘One of the pieces that is thinnest is in the Second Age and that’s where The Rings of Power is set, thousands of years before Frodo and Sam. It’s a story of hope and approaching darkness, this being Tolkien, it’s a story of loss.’
Executive Producer J.D. Payne talked about the kingdom’s downfall, saying the ‘factionalization of these groups pulling these groups apart. It’s timely for not just our culture or any other culture around the world. [The show is] a deeply painful story, but something we might learn from it.’
The release for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is imminent, arriving on Prime Video Sept. 2nd.
