Showtime on YouTube has released an exclusive sneak peek at the upcoming series premiere of The Man Who Fell to Earth. And by “sneak peek,” we mean the first five minutes. Featuring Chiwetel Ejiofor as an alien who falls to Earth, no doubt with news of impending doom. The intriguing opening should have audiences hooked and ready to see the rest of the limited series when it hits screens next month.
The first five minutes of The Man Who Fell to Earth see Ejiofor giving a lecture to a large auditorium, during which he openly admits to being from another planet. Interspersed with his world-changing speech, we see flashbacks to the alien’s arrival, and his transformation from extra-terrestrial being into a human. The haunting footage of Ejiofor’s alien slowly transforming as he rises from a fiery chasm in the Earth is wonderfully contrasted with the crisply suited human that he becomes. No doubt that The Man Who Fell to Earth will give Ejiofor plenty of opportunities to demonstrate why he is considered one of the most exciting actors working today.

Showtime
While Showtime’s The Man Who Fell to Earth will act as a reimagining of both the source novel and the original movie, it will also act as a sequel, with beloved actor Bill Nighy set to star as Thomas Jerome Newton, the alien previously played by music legend David Bowie.
Based on the Walter Tevis 1963 novel of the same name, and released in 1976, The Man Who Fell to Earth is a cult classic British science-fiction movie starring David Bowie as Thomas Jerome Newton, an alien who has come to Earth in search of water to save his home planet. Aided by lawyer Oliver Farnsworth, Thomas uses his knowledge of advanced technology to create profitable inventions. While developing a method to transport water, Thomas meets Mary-Lou, a quiet hotel clerk, and begins to fall in love with her. Just as he is ready to leave Earth, Thomas is intercepted by the U.S. government, and his entire plan is threatened.
Thus, Showtime’s The Man Who Fell to Earth series will see Ejiofor’s new alien character, Faraday, turn to Newton for help, making the series a sequel some 46 years in the making. The Man Who Fell to Earth is set to debut on Showtime on April 24, 2022.
