The Mandalorian is one of the newest and arguably most successful TV series in the Star Wars franchise. Revolving around a Mandalorian bounty hunter named Din Djarin, The Mandalorian introduces a Force-sensitive character named Grogu, who appears to be the same species as Master Yoda. The Disney+ series follows Din and Grogu as they try to evade capture from the remnants of the Empire. With the third season hitting Disney+ on March 1 (per Esquire), Star Wars fans are brushing up on their lore trying to figure out what the season will deliver next.
When Grogu, AKA The Child, is first introduced to us, he appears to be a baby. That being said, IG-88 reveals that the child is, in fact, more than 50 years old and that the species naturally undergoes a slow aging process. Considering his age, it’s not hard to find people that are younger than him, but it may shock you to learn just which characters are younger than little Grogu. Here are six Mandalorian characters you would not believe are younger than Grogu.

Din Djarin
Disney Platform Distribution
The main character, and the show’s namesake, the Mandalorian AKA Din Djarin may be older than you think. Considering his experience with the Watch and Mandalorians, he was likely born around 30BBY. Considering that The Mandalorian takes place in 9ABY, this would make Djarin around 40 years old at the time of the show (per Screen Rant). While he is no spring-chicken, it is still younger than Grogu, who they have calculated to be at least 50 years old. Like IG-88 told to Din when they first encountered the child, Grogu’s species appears to have a very slow growth rate, and 50 is obviously still infancy for the little green guy.
Ahsoka Tano
Ahsoka Tano’s brief appearance on The Mandalorian brought joy to the hearts of many. Not only has she become one of the most beloved characters in the Star Wars universe thanks to The Clone Wars, but she also survived deadly encounters that should have been fatal, including Order 66 and going head-to-head with Darths Maul and Vader. Considering that Ahsoka was born in 36 BBY, this makes her around 46 at the time of The Mandalorian. This makes her older than Din Djarin, but still younger than Grogu.
Cara Dune
Lucasfilm
Cara Dune is the tough former Rebel soldier turned mercenary. Cara not only gives Mando a run for his money in his fight, but actually has used her fighting skills to make money. She joins Din Djarin for a few small missions before helping to rescue Grogu from Moff Gideon. Cara Dune’s age has been calculated at being around 36 years during the time of The Mandalorian. While it’s not surprising that she is younger than both Ahsoka and the Mandalorian himself, her being significantly younger than Grogu would make no sense without context to the growth difference in Grogu’s species.
Boba Fett
Disney Platform Distribution
Boba Fett’s legendary comeback in the second season of The Mandalorian made long-time Fett fans extremely happy. Despite appearing to have been digested in the Sarlacc Pit in Return of the Jedi, Boba appears on-screen with his backstory being told in The Book of Boba Fett. Although Boba is a clone, part of what sets him apart from other clones is that he does not have accelerated growth and grows at a normal rate like his “father” did — similarly to Omega from The Bad Batch. Boba has been around since before The Clone Wars and is about 42 years old during The Mandalorian. He has certainly been to hell and back and looks quite a bit older than this. However, he is still younger than Grogu.
Luke Skywalker
Lucasfilm Ltd.
Surprisingly, Luke is one of the youngest characters on The Mandalorian. At a mere 28 years of age, Luke is a baby compared to Grogu. This comes as a great shock as not only is he extremely strong with the Force, but Luke also has experienced a great deal of hardship, including watching his father sacrifice himself so that he may live — all before the age of 30. Once more, Grogu’s age is somewhat astounding, considering that he can’t talk, can barely walk, and pretty much has to be carried around. Despite this, Grogu is still able to protect himself and those he cares about when necessary.
Fennec Shand
Another young one on the board is bounty hunter Fennec Shand. Fennec is a Master Assassin, whose skills are unmatched. She found herself wanted and wound up being captured by Din Djarin and his rookie ally. Fennec eventually winds up meeting with Boba Fett and teaming up with him after he saved her life. Though she is older than Boba, she still makes the cut, coming in at around 48 years old. Fennec not only looks good for her age, but shows off what she’s learned in her years of experience with some expert sharpshooting, stealth, and hand-to-hand combat.
