Din Djarin AKA The Mandalorian is the main character on the hit Disney+ original series The Mandalorian. The series follows Din and his newfound companion Grogu as they struggle to evade capture from the remnants of the Empire as well as independent bounty hunters. The series arguably revived Star Wars with all-new original characters that breathed new life into the franchise. With a new season set to be released on March 1st 2023, fans are brushing up on their Mandalorian facts.

While little is known about Din’s past, his weapons and armor are a huge part of his Mandalorian culture. From his new set of armor to his rare weapons like whistling birds, Din Djarin’s weapons are his lifeline. Much like his Mandalorian brothers and sisters, Din is never without his weapons or armor, but his weapons are particularly unique. Between his whistling birds and his deadly rifle, there is a lot to be said about Mando’s weapons and armor.

Beskar Armor

     Walt Disney Studios

Din Djarin’s iconic full suit of armor does not get made until after he brings The Child in to claim his bounty of beskar steel, a treasure worth more than any other currency to the Mandalorians. Beskar steel is truly one of a kind. Rare and indestructible, beskar steel is able to deflect the blade of a lightsaber. The same steel saved Boba Fett from the acid within the bowels of the Sarlacc Pit. While Din is already a fierce warrior, the addition of such strong armor makes him a force to be reckoned with as he can withstand 10 times more than he could before.

Jetpack

     Lucasfilm / Disney

Another important aspect to Mandalorian armor is the presence of a jetpack, as seen being used by Boba Fett. The jetpack allows Mandalorians to fly to seemingly endless heights, as long as they remain in the atmosphere. Jetpacks are used for both bursts of elevation when necessary, as well as traveling great distances. Din’s jetpack is given to him by his fellow Mandalorians, and while he struggles to use it at first, it has become a staple piece of his gear. While most jetpack’s features are universal, Din Djarin’s pack has the ability to be controlled remotely.

Vibroblade

While a vibroblade may sound like an exotic sci-fi weapon, it is essentially the Star Wars equivalent of a bowie knife. As the name states, the blade vibrates, allowing the knife to cut through what normal blades would not. This type of weapon is something somewhat new to the franchise as the weapons that received the most screen-time were typically lightsabers and blasters. While a vibroblade is not as powerful as a lightsaber by any means, it is a unique weapon in its own right that comes in handy when you have some serious cuts to make.

Darksaber

     Disney Platform Distribution

The Darksaber is the subject of many myths and legends. This ancient black-bladed saber was made by Tarre Viszla, the very first, and only, Mandalorian to be inducted into the Jedi Order. Over the years, the Darksaber has gone through the hands of many people, including Pre Viszla, the leader of Death Watch during the Clone Wars, and Darth Maul, who used the saber to fight Sidious. While the saber bounced around for decades, the weapon fell into the hands of Moff Gideon, which is how Din Djarin got it in The Mandalorian season 2. While the Darksaber is technically not Din’s personal weapon, he is the current wielder of it. It’s unclear what will happen to the Darksaber in the future, but for now, it is in the capable hands of Din Djarin.

Vambrace Flamethrower

As seen with Boba Fett in the original trilogy, Mandalorian armor is perfect for containing hidden weapons. One sick weapon that has been severely neglected until now is the flamethrower hidden within the Mandalorian vambrace. Din’s flamethrower is hidden in his right vambrace and when he uses it, he unleashes a wall of flame on his enemies, getting him out of some pretty sticky situations. While a flamethrower doesn’t sound very exciting in a universe where lightsabers exist, it is still a deadly weapon that is impossible to deflect, leaving even the finest Jedi defenseless.

Blaster

     Lucasfilm

“So uncivilized.” The iconic words that Obi-Wan spat after shooting Grievous with a blaster seems to be how many Star Wars fans feel about blasters, which are laser guns used by almost every single person in the galaxy (aside from Jedi, of course). Mando’s blaster is not extraordinary by any means. It is average in size and works well enough for Din to do his job. Considering its convenience, the blaster is arguably Din’s most-used weapon.

Amban Rifle

One of Din’s weapons that is unique to him is his rifle. This powerful, long-range weapon can also be used for melee attacks thanks to its included shock emitter. In the first episode of The Mandalorian, we get a glimpse of the versatility of this weapon as he uses the shock emitter to get rid of an attacking Ravinak. This mighty weapon is not to be trifled with as it can conquer the largest of beasts up-close while eviscerating enemies from miles away. This weapon is so dangerous it has been banned by both the Empire and the New Republic.

Whistling Birds

Perhaps the most unique and deadly weapon in the entirety of the Star Wars franchise is the whistling birds. Made by the smelter, the whistling birds are small target-seeking darts made of beskar. Deployed at Din’s command, what the whistling birds lack in size they make up for in damage as these sharp darts can penetrate any armor. Once a dart has penetrated itrs target, the bird explodes, releasing a number of needles embedded in the dart. The whistling birds are brutal and have caused some very painful deaths.
