In 2019, the first season of The Mandalorian brought the fans of the franchise together during a period of distress, discomfort, and plenty of ugly stuff between the fandom. The story was tight, the main characters deeply interesting, as much in personality as well for their designs, and finally the virtual production made the scenery look real, not like a CGI, videogame mess.

In 2020 when we watched the second season of The Mandalorian, we saw the appearance of fan-favorite Ahsoka in live-action, making us excited, but there was more. During the season finale, a young Jedi came into the picture by the name Luke Skywalker. He crushed all the bad guys, saved our protagonists, and in the end, he took force-sensitive, little Grogu in order to train him in the ways of a Jedi. It was a heart-crushing scene, Mando and Grogu, whom we watch develop a father and son relationship for two seasons split their ways, but not before Mandalorian removed his helmet in front of the baby to say his goodbyes. It was a beautiful ending to their story.

As the series continues, it has to change its entire premise. But in the teaser for the third season, we see Mando and Grogu back together. What happened? Well, you have to watch The Book of Boba Fett to find out. If you haven’t watched it, here’s what we can tell you about The Mandalorian’s third season so far.

The Mandalorian Season 3: The Plot

During the second season, we watched Mando desperately trying to find a suitable replacement for him, someone who could take care of the child and teach him about the Force, he was looking for a Jedi. During their adventures, he retrieved Boba Fett’s armor, helped a family of frog-people to reunite (even if the child ate some of their eggs), met some other Mandalorians who don’t have a problem showing their face and fought their way in Imperial spaceships.

In the third season of The Mandalorian, we should follow the aftermath of what happened in The Book of Boba Fett. The Mandalorian appeared in the series for a couple of episodes, just to undo the finale of the second season of his own show. From the trailer, we see that Din Djarin is hunted by his own people, because he removed his helmet in front of others, having the baby by his side. Or maybe the removal of the helmet is just an excuse since he has a strong claim in the leadership after he obtained the Darksaber at the end of the previous season. We have to wait a little more to find out.

The Mandalorian Season 3: The Cast

     Walt Disney Studios

Pedro Pascal is back as one of the best father figures in fiction, giving a great performance, even though he rarely shows his face, just by his voice and his body movements. Also, for many times he talks to a cute puppet, he could be doing a one-man show.

Katee Sackhoff returns to the show, portraying Bo-Katan Kryze, a fierce leader of Mandalore who is going to be an obstacle for our main characters. Carl Weathers also returns for his role as Greef Karga, while having some directorial duties as well. The amazing Giancarlo Esposito, who can play a villain in any type of story better than anyone else, also is back as Moff Gideon, he has to try and get his revenge on Mando after his defeat and loss of his Darksaber. Emilly Swallow has the part of the armorer once again, though she exiled Din Djarin in The Book of Boba Fett as a punishment for removing his helmet. Now he must gain her trust back.

Omid Abdahi has the part of Dr. Pershing, who is walking on a thin line between good and evil after he betrayed Mof Gideon in order to save Grogu during the second season. Paul Sun-Hyung Lee will appear again as Carson Teva, a pilot with not many episodes appearing before, but he won the hearts of many fans. Amy Sedaris is Pelli Motto once more on her station at the Mos Eisley spaceport on Tatooine. Finally, Tim Meadows and Christopher Lloyd are set to appear, but we know nothing about their parts for now.

Release Date

     Disney+

We may not have any more Mandalorian adventures in 2022. Still, during the Star Wars Celebration in May 2022, Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni, the producers of the show, confirmed that the third season of The Mandalorian will arrive on our screens in the coming in spring. The official release date is March 1.

The Mandalorian brought some much-needed fresh air to the universe of Star Wars. We had enough stories with the light and the dark side of the force, the Jedi and the Empire, and the lightsabers. We have a western show set in space, with new characters, not necessarily connected with the original trilogy, and new sets and people (or other creatures) to visit and meet in every new episode. The Mandalorian makes being a Star Wars fan worth it.
