Anya Taylor-Joy and Nicholas Hoult become the victims of a very special, and very deadly, menu in the latest trailer for director Mark Mylod’s upcoming horror comedy, The Menu. Academy Award nominee Ralph Fiennes stars alongside Taylor-Joy and Hoult as Chef Slowik, a cook with expensive tastes and nefarious intent. You can check out the newly released trailer for The Menu below.
Coming courtesy of Searchlight Pictures, The Menu will introduce audiences to young couple Margot and Tyler, played by Anya Taylor-Joy and Nicholas Hoult, respectively, who travel to a remote coastal island to at the ludicrously exclusive restaurant, Hawthorne. Run by an intense celebrity chef named Slowik (Ralph Fiennes), the restaurant’s specialty is a lavish molecular gastronomy menu where food is treated as conceptual art.

But, as the patrons soon discover, Slowik’s approach may not be to everyone’s taste, as his cuisine reveals some shocking surprises for the wealthy guests. The rest of the guests due to attend The Menu includes Hong Chau, Janet McTeer, Judith Light, John Leguizamo, Reed Birney, Rob Yang, Aimee Carrero, Paul Adelstein, Arturo Castro, and Peter Grosz.
Several posters for The Menu have also been unveiled via social media alongside the new footage, with one putting the spotlight on Anya Taylor-Joy’s character Margot, while the other puts Ralph Fiennes’ Chef Slowik at its forefront. As demonstrated by the trailer, a lot of The Menu will seemingly hinge on the mysterious connection between the pair.
Things Take a Turn Towards the Terrifying for the Guests in The Menu
Searchlight Pictures
Ralph Fiennes looks to be in fine form as the murderous chef, as what is supposed to be an evening of deliciousness takes a turn towards the terrifying. As guests are maimed, hunted, and (probably?) eaten, Fiennes simmers while enacting his brutal punishment-slash-art on the patrons. No doubt his artwork will aim to make a point about the super-rich and how they spend their money and time. Perhaps this is what the chef means when he asks Margot, “Are you with us, or with them?”
Directed by Mark Mylod and written by Seth Reiss and Will Tracy, The Menu is produced by Adam McKay and Betsy Koch through their production banner Hyperobject Industries. Having become known for helming such comedies as Step Brothers, Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, and The Other Guys, Adam McKay has changed tack in recent years.
The filmmaker has now become best known for casting a watchful, satirical eye over topics of a much more political nature with the likes of The Big Short, Vice, and the recent Academy Award-nominated Don’t Look Up, which was released by Netflix. Based on the trailer for The Menu, McKay and director Mark Mylod will aim to do something similar, with the movie likely to comment and criticize opulent wealth and the class system.
The Menu is due to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2022, and will then be released on November 18, 2022, by Searchlight Pictures.
