Netflix Delivers ’90s Nostalgia With The Midnight Club
Netflix
The Midnight Club is set in 1994, putting a dash of ’90s nostalgia into the series. The live-action adaptation takes inspiration from Christopher Pike’s original literary works, including his stories Witch, Gimme a Kiss, Road to Nowhere, and The Wicked Heart, with more titles to be revealed soon. It’s also noted that the show takes place at Brightcliffe Manor.
“I began brainstorming an adaptation of THE MIDNIGHT CLUB as a teenager, so this is a dream come true,” Flanagan had said on social media when the project was announced. “It’s an honor to introduce a new generation of young horror fans to the world of Christopher Pike.”
This is the fourth series for Mike Flanagan and Trevor Macy at Netflix through their overall deal with the streamer. However, it is their first series targeted for a YA audience, as their prior works were a bit more mature. They previously released The Haunting of Bly Manor, The Haunting of Hill House, and Midnight Mass. Meanwhile, Flanagan is also working on an adaptation of The Fall of the House of Usher based on Edgar Allan Poe’s short story. Other works from Poe will also be used as inspiration for that show.
The Midnight Club starts streaming on Oct. 7, 2022.
