The latest image from the set of The Munsters, an upcoming movie from Rob Zombie based on the classic TV sitcom, has revealed the latest casting. Posting an image of Catherine Schell in character, Zombie revealed on Instagram that the veteran actress had stepped out of retirement just for this project. Clearly, the director of the Munsters reboot is a big fan of Schell, as he can’t seem to suppress his enthusiasm over the casting in the Instagram post reveal.

“MUNSTERS CASTING NEWS! I am thrilled to bring you the first photo from the set of CATHERINE SCHELL as Zoya Krupp,” Zombie writes. “I am sure you all remember Catherine as Maya from Space: 1999 or perhaps from Roy Ward Baker’s Moon Zero Two… or On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, the Dr. Who episode City of Death or her films with Peter Sellers The Return of the Pink Panther and The Prisoner of Zenda.”

The filmmaker adds: “Catherine retired from acting in the ’90s, but now she is back and we are so happy to have her join us on The Munsters!”
The Cast of The Munsters Continues to Take Shape, But Where Are Marilyn and Eddie?
Universal Pictures
Rob Zombie long ago shared that his new Munsters movie would feature Jeff Daniel Phillips as Herman, Sheri Moon Zombie as Lily, and Dan Roebuck as Grandpa. Other casting announcements have since come in from the director to reveal some of the other characters the Munsters will be meeting. This includes Doctor Who star Sylvester McCoy as Igor and frequent Rob Zombie collaborator Richard Brake as Dr. Henry Augustus Wolfgang, the resident mad scientist.
Curiously, there hasn’t been any indication as of this time that Eddie and Marilyn Munster will even appear in the film. There could be a method to Zombie’s madness, as he’s seemingly having some fun by only releasing information about the film in small pieces at a time. He might be saving some of the remaining family member reveals for a later date. It’s also possible that Zombie is reimagining a new version of The Munsters with a family that’s slightly smaller. Time will have to tell, but Zombie seems to be aiming for a very faithful adaptation.
“There’s not a better person in Hollywood, or anywhere else on the planet, who should be making The Munsters movie other than Rob Zombie,” Grandpa actor Dan Roebuck teased in a Horror Geek Life interview. “It’s gone through the hands of so many other people and I know Rob wasn’t just looking for something to attach his coattails to. He’s a huge fan of it and being a life-long fan approaching this material it really is as good as it gets.”
There’s not a release date for The Munsters at this time, but it’s expected to arrive later this year. Rumor is it will be given a day-and-date release by hitting theaters at the same time it’s made available for streaming on Peacock.
