More casting news has come in for The Munsters reboot from director Rob Zombie. Taking to Instagram, Zombie has posted another photo of the movie’s latest cast member, revealing Hungarian actor Jeremy Wheeler as Herman’s boss Mr. Gateman. You can see the post below.
In the caption, Zombie says, “Ladies and gentlemen I give you some new casting straight from the set of The Munsters in beautiful downtown Budapest… Jeremy Wheeler aka MR. GATEMAN, Herman’s boss at the one and only GATEMAN, GOODBURY and GRAVES FUNERAL PARLOR, the finest funeral home in all of Mockingbird Heights. Don’t let that winning smile fool you…he’s a grim man for a grim job.”
“This gives me chills!” Herman actor Jeff Daniel Phillips commented, with Grandpa actor Dan Roebuck adding that Wheeler is a “very good actor.”
Mr. Gateman is a character that appeared in the original sitcom version of The Munsters, albeit in a rather limited capacity. He was present in two episodes with famous character actor John Carradine in the role, though he is often referenced by Herman during the series. The boss could be strict at work but did take the time to once visit the Munster family household at 1313 Mockingbird Lane to enjoy dinner with Herman and the others.
Jeremy Wheeler has appeared in movies like Extinction, The Childhood of a Leader, and Birds of Paradise. His work also includes the popular Netflix series The Crown as well as Josh Hartnett’s new series The Fear Index. Wheeler is also set to appear in the upcoming Borderlands movie based on the video game of the same name which also stars Cate Blanchett, Jamie Lee Curtis, Kevin Hart, and Jack Black.
Rob Zombie’s Munsters Reboot Has Always Been His Dream Project
Rob Zombie clearly loves violence and foul language in his horror movies, but he still has a soft spot for the family-friendly comedy featured on The Munsters. The upcoming reboot has been given a PG rating, a first for Zombie, as it was vital for him to have the new film be as faithful as possible to the original series. That is because Zombie has been a lifelong fan of The Munsters and has essentially been preparing his whole life for the movie.
The Munsters reboot is expected to have a day-and-date release later in 2022, premiering both in theaters and on NBCUniversal’s streaming service Peacock.
