It’s official: Butch Patrick will appear in Rob Zombie’s new take on The Munsters. In the original sitcom, Patrick, a former child star, played little Eddie Munster. There were rumors he’d be involved with Zombie’s reboot, and the news has been confirmed by Zombie with a new post on Instagram. Zombie reveals that Patrick will play Tin Can Man, another character who was featured in the sitcom. Also unveiled is a first look at the new Tin Can Man, which you can see below.

Patrick’s casting means that both surviving stars of the original sitcom’s main cast will be featured in the reboot. It was previously announced that Pat Priest, one of two actresses who played Marilyn Munster, had also been cast in a mystery role. Fred Gwynne (Herman), Yvonne De Carlo (Lily), Al Lewis (The Count), and Beverley Owen (original Marilyn) have all since passed away.

Patrick is known to be friends with Zombie so it seemed likely that he’d be involved with the film in some way. He has also teased that Zombie is filming tons of footage for this reboot with enough scenes to make a movie that’s nearly three hours long. That would make sense given how many characters Zombie has already managed to fit into the film, and he continues to keep adding more.
“This movie is going to kill in a really good way. It’s a very long movie, it’s like 2 hours and 38 minutes,” Patrick said, per 20TIMinutes. “I’ve seen footage and I’ve seen where he’s going with it and it’s going to be great, it really is.”
Rob Zombie Honors the Original With His Reboot

Rob Zombie has sought to be very faithful with The Munsters. Nearly every character that has been teased was originally featured in the sitcom, including many who only showed up for brief appearances. Great efforts were put into having things look the same as well with Zombie having 1313 Mockingbird Lane built from scratch to closely resemble the original version seen in the TV series.
Zombie very well could be The Munsters’ biggest fan, and with two decades of filmmaking experience, he might be the perfect person to reboot the series. In a prior Horror Geek Life interview, Grandpa actor Dan Roebuck shared his thoughts on Zombie taking the reins of the reboot and came to a similar conclusion.
“The simple fact is, there’s not a better person in Hollywood, or anywhere else on the planet, who should be making The Munsters movie other than Rob Zombie,” Roebuck said. “It’s gone through the hands of so many other people and I know Rob wasn’t just looking for something to attach his coattails to. He’s a huge fan of it and being a life-long fan approaching this material it really is as good as it gets.”
A release date hasn’t been set for The Munsters but it is expected to arrive later this year. It is rated PG, a first for Zombie as a filmmaker.
