You will soon be able to stream The New Mutants on Disney+. Per Disney Plus Informer, it has been announced that The New Mutants will arrive on Disney+ for streaming in the United States on Friday, Oct. 14, 2022. The film will join other new additions for Disney+ for the month of October, such as the premiere of the new Marvel special Werewolf By Night.
This release has been a long time coming after The New Mutants had undergone several delays before ever making its way to theaters. It was filmed in 2017 with plans for a 2018 release, but reshoots coupled with the Disney, 20th Century Fox merger brought about some delays. The movie was finally released in theaters in the fall of 2020, but the response from filmgoers was not good. The film bombed at the box office with its mixed reviews leaning on the negative side, ensuring that any plans for sequels would not be realized.

With that said, there were some Marvel fans who felt the movie was enjoyable and undeserving of its criticism, much like we are seeing with the Marvel film Morbius recently finding a new audience on streaming after bombing in theaters. The New Mutants star Maisie Williams also takes the criticism in stride, previously explaining in a British GQ interview that she has “extremely fulfilling” memories of the movie and feels amused by some critics calling it the worst Marvel movie ever made.
“I can’t remember what publication it was, but someone said it was the worst Marvel movie ever made. I still feel kinda proud of that!” Williams said.
The New Mutants Is the Last of the Original X-Men Movie Series
While 2019’s Dark Phoenix is the last installment of the main series of X-Men films, the spinoff The New Mutants serves as the final installment of that particular movie series with its 2020 release date. It has since been reported that the X-Men characters will be rebooted for their introduction into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Josh Boone directed The New Mutants using a screenplay co-written with Knate Lee. The film stars Maisie Williams, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Heaton, Alice Braga, Blu Hunt, Henry Zaga, and Adam Beach.
