Regarded as one of the funniest TV shows of all time, The Office has some of the best and uproarious Halloween episodes in TV history. Every time we got to witness Michael, Dwight, Jim, Pam and the rest of the Dunder Mifflin crew in crazy, and hilarious costumes, we knew we were in for a great time. Although running for nine seasons, there are only a total of six Halloween episodes, with a few not actually being full-fledged episodes centered around the Dunder Mifflin Scranton branch celebrating the spooky holiday. Instead, we bear witness to some genius cold opens, which still puts us in the Halloween spirit. So without further ado, lets rank every Halloween episode from The Office.

6 Employee Transfer - Season 5, Episode 6

     NBC Universal Television Distribution

This Halloween cold open sees more great costumes and gags. Most hilariously of all, Creed, Kevin, and Dwight deal with a costume dilemma, where all three come dressed in the same costume. Meanwhile, Pam is in New York, dressed in for the holiday. However, the corporate office doesn’t dress up for Halloween, and to make matters worse, she dresses as Charlie Chaplin, and she cannot remove her painted-on mustache or her hat, or else she looks like a notorious German dictator.

Although the rest of the episode is still hilarious, it doesn’t necessarily offer much else or can be any better than the brilliant cold open that preceded it. However, it is very sad seeing Michael and Holly say their goodbyes, as their romantic relationship reaches its end.

5 Koi Pond - Season 6, Episode 8

Again, not a full-fledged Halloween episode, and instead a Halloween-based cold open, this Office cold open is nonetheless hilarious and should be among the best in the show. Unfortunately, it may be difficult to find this cold open as most streaming services have removed it due to its insensitive nature.

There is so much to unpack from this episode, most notably the costumes worn by the Scranton gang. The costumes include Dwight as Jigsaw, Ryan as Edward from Twilight, Jim as Facebook, and Erin as Fiona from Shrek. While on the surface this may not be the funniest joke, it’s layered on top of a brilliantly un-scary haunted house for the kids of Scranton, led by Darryl as he hilariously gets the names of the costumes wrong. The episode as a whole, is another classic Office riot with Michael falling into a Koi Pond, as well Pam and Andy being sent on numerous sales calls. Unfortunately, the episode is overshadowed by the impeccable cold open.

4 Here Comes Treble - Season 9, Episode 5

Although Season nine may not have been the best season of the show, “Here Comes Treble” is certainly among the best and most memorable episodes of that season. Kicking off with another great cold open, as Dwight attempts to prank Erin, which doesn’t exactly go his way, and instead gets a pumpkin stuck on his head. The rest of the episode continues to be great, as Andy’s old acappella group, Here Comes Treble, visits the office to sing at the Halloween party, which Andy is beyond thrilled about, even though it doesn’t go the way he wanted.

3 Spooked - Season 8, Episode 5

“Spooked” is another episode where classic misunderstandings lead to many hilarious and awkward moments between characters. Tensions and awkwardness are high in this episode, as Erin and Andy try to deal with their romantic relationship that recently came to an end. Tasked with organizing the Halloween party, which she does a seemingly good job with, Erin hopes this is enough to impress Andy. However, when company CEO Robert California (James Spader) turns up at the branch, Andy is quick to dismiss the party and decorations, saying it isn’t scary enough. This prompts Erin to ask for Gabe’s help, which doesn’t go as planned as Gabe provides a self-made film, making the office incredibly uncomfortable due to the personal nature of the film. Filming Oscar’s Grandmother and also Stanley in his car without his knowledge.

This episode is centered around the Halloween spirit and peoples fears. We see Robert California mysteriously searching for everyone’s worst fears, which leads to a gut-busting monologue, using everyone’s deepest fears to creep them all out.

2 Costume Party - Season 7, Episode 6

With the party planning committee hosting a costume contest, with the grand prize being coupons worth $15,000 dollars, the whole office pulls out all the stocks and audiences are treated to some truly amazing and creative costumes. The costumes included Michael dressed as MacGruber, Dwight as The Scranton Strangler, Jim and Pam as Popeye and Olive, much to Jim’s discredit, as well as Oscar’s infamous “Rational Consumer” costume. The contest is great, but this episode’s main story is similarly just as brilliant. Michael feels betrayed by Darryl, as Darryl went over Michael’s head to corporate to pitch an idea which Michael isn’t happy about. Of course, in true Michael Scott fashion, he attempts to get back at Darryl, even dressing up as Darryl at one point.

1 Halloween – Season 2, Episode 5

     NBC Univeresal Television Distribution

The very first Halloween episode just so happens to be the best. Delivering iconic costumes from 3-hole punch Jim, Dwight as a Sith Lord, and Michael with a crafted head of himself on his shoulder. Similarly, we get another brilliantly awkward situation in the form of Michael being forced to fire an employee, which he has had plenty of time to do, but in true Michael Scott fashion, left it until the last minute, and on a holiday. There is no shortage of laughs and incredibly awkward moments that will force you to cringe for the characters. However, what this episode does best, is it gives viewers our first emotional moment with Michael when he isn’t being offensive, as he gleefully gives out candy to some trick or treaters. This also helps set his character apart from his UK counterpart, David Brent.
