Fans of The Orville, we have some good news and some bad news. Starting with the good news, Hulu has released a new sneak peek teaser for the upcoming third season of the series, dubbed The Orville: New Horizons. Lasting nearly four minutes long, the action-packed teaser also includes the opening credits. You can watch the video below.
While this is a nice treat for fans, Hulu has released the video as a way to soften the blow for the bad news. It is revealed in the teaser that Hulu will now premiere The Orville: New Horizons on June 2, 2022. A previous teaser released in Fall 2021 had unveiled a March 10 release date for the show, meaning fans will have to wait about three more months to see the new episodes.

The official synopsis for The Orville: New Horizons reads: “Set 400 years in the future, The Orville: New Horizons finds the crew of the U.S.S. Orville continuing their mission of exploration, as they navigate both the mysteries of the universe and the complexities of their own interpersonal relationships.”
The series stars Seth MacFarlane, Adrianne Palicki, Penny Johnson Jerald, Scott Grimes, Peter Macon, J. Lee, Mark Jackson, Chad L. Coleman, and Jessica Szohr. Anne Winters also joins the cast in season 3 a ship navigator Ensign Charly Burke. Norm MacDonald will also be posthumously featured in the show as he had completed his voiceover work prior to his death. MacFarlane created the series which originally debuted on Fox where it ran for two seasons before its move to Hulu.
While the first season of The Orville fell short with critics, getting hit with a 30% rotten splat at Rotten Tomatoes, it seemed to quickly find its way by season 2. The show’s second season has a perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes of 100% certified fresh, so the love for the series had only grown exponentially and increased the anticipation for the third season. This also means that the pressure is high for New Horizons to match the quality of season 2, at least in the eyes of the major critics.
The Orville: New Horizons Might Be Just the Beginning

Of the possibility of moving beyond The Orville: New Horizons, Seth MacFarlane has said he hopes “this is not the last time we all go to space,” suggesting he’s open to doing more seasons. This is also something that’s been spoken about at Hulu as well. Jordan Helman, head of scripted originals at Hulu, has addressed the possibilty of doing another season. It remains an “open conversation” at the streamer and the show’s future will likely depend upon how well the third season is received by fans.
“[The] future of the show remains an open conversation and there have been no conversations otherwise,” Helman told Deadline. “I believe the fans of the show that are coming to us from Fox will be deeply excited and satiated. I also think for new fans that maybe didn’t experience it, it will feel new to them.”
The Orville: New Horizons will premiere on Hulu on June 2, 2022, as long as there are no more surprise delays.
