The highly anticipated third season of The Orville is just couple of weeks away from making its debut on its new home of Hulu, and the newly released trailer shows that the three-year wait is certainly going to have been worth it for fans of Seth MacFarlane’s sci-fi series. Having been stalled due to the Covid pandemic, the series has been a long time coming, and while filming has been completed for some time, it is clear from the trailer that there has been a lot of post-production and special effects work to be completed.
The Orville: New Horizons see’s Seth MacFarlane back as Captain Ed Mercer, commanding The Orville on a new mission set 400 years in the future, and will see the return of series regulars Adrianne Palicki, Penny Johnson Jerald, Scott Grimes, Peter Macon, J. Lee, Mark Jackson, Chad L. Coleman, Jessica Szohr, and Anne Winters. The official synopsis of the new series reads:
MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY
While it has taken a long time to get The Orville back on screens, Seth MacFarlane has been determined from the start to make sure the series was not forgotten or lost following the Disney/Fox merger. He previously said:
“Set 400 years in the future, The Orville: New Horizons finds the crew of the U.S.S. Orville continuing their mission of exploration, as they navigate both the mysteries of the universe and the complexities of their own interpersonal relationships.”
“All I can say is we’re working on it. We’re working very hard. We got hit by this just like everyone else, but we are working on it. We will be back soon, folks. There has been a lot of speculation online: Will the show come back? The show is still a huge priority for me and for the cast and everyone else. We do have a season to finish, and we are going to finish it. For a show with a lot of prosthetic makeup that requires close contact, a lot of background artists, it’s a big job, and you want to make sure you do it in a way that keeps everyone safe and secure. Once we have those protocols figured out, we will start up again and you will get more Orville.”
Seth MacFarlane Will Soon Be Bringing Ted Back In a New TV Show
Universal Pictures
While The Orville’s future beyond its new season is not known, Seth MacFarlane will also be bringing his movie franchise Ted to the small screen in a new series, which will see him returning as the voice of the foul-mouthed teddy bear.
The series will stream on Peacock and will act as a prequel to the original hit movie, which starred Mark Wahlberg and Mila Kunis. While none of the original cast will be returning for the show, being set in the early 1990s, the series will allow MacFarlane to do what he loves best and bring a whole host of nostalgic references into the mix as Ted attempts to be a role model to his then 16-year-old owner, John, played by Max Burkholder. The series is due to film this year and will likely arrive sometime in 2023.
