Good news is coming in for fans of The Peripheral. Debuting its first season on Prime Video in October, the series is based on the book of the same name by William Gibson. Scott Smith developed the TV series adaptation and executive produces alongside Westworld creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy. It stars Chloe Grace Moretz as Flynne Fisher, a VR gamer in the future who finds a second life in an ultra-realistic SIM world.

“We are in talks about Season 2 as we speak. We were thrilled to see real engagement and a lot of crossover from The Lord of the Rings fans. So, it’s kind of what we were hoping, that we were getting a bunch of people into the service for that show, and that they would go on to watch our next show. They’re so different in tone, and obviously one’s fantasy and one’s sci-fi. We’re incredibly proud of the producers of The Peripheral. So I think there’ll be news on that in the not-too-distant future. We’re already hard at work on scripts for Season 2 and a plan for Season 2, so nothing to say officially right now, but we’re deep into it.”
The Peripheral Will Likely Get Renewed Very Soon

That’s part of what’s been eye-opening for me. Because I hadn’t done TV, I hadn’t seen relationships develop over this long of a stretch of time," Smith previously told Collider. “You start to realize that there’s a spark between characters. And then, you have that in your head for Season 2. We have some thick chunks of dialogue that could be terrible with the wrong actors. It could be scene-chewing. But they handled it with grace and claimed it as their own.”
On moving forward with Season 2, Smith added, “Yeah, that’s all of our hope, but we’ll see what the fates decide. It was seen as an ongoing series.”
You can stream the first season of The Peripheral on Prime Video. Season 2 hasn’t yet been greenlit, so there’s no release date on a second season as of this time.
