A teaser trailer for The Power, Prime Video’s upcoming series, has been unveiled. The show takes inspiration from Naomi Alderman’s 2016 bestselling book of the same name, which presents a world where girls can electrocute others once they reach a certain age. The adaptation was developed by Alderman herself, in collaboration with an exclusively female writing team.

The series cast includes Toni Collette as Margot Cleary-Lopez, John Leguizamo as John Lopez, Toheeb Jimoh as Tunde Ojo, Josh Charles as Daniel Dandon, Eddie Marsan as Bernie Monke, Ria Zmitrowicz as Roxy Monke, Halle Bush as Allie Montgomery, and Zrinka Cvitešić as Tatiana Moskalev.

A Society Dominated by Powerful Women

     Prime Video

In The Power, young girls develop supernatural abilities in a reality not too different from our own. This reality ultimately tells a story about how a predominantly female society came to be. This is because as these girls discover they can use their power for both destruction and awakening the power in older women, they create a female-dominated society.

The trailer shows Mayor Margot Cleary-Lopez (Collette) revealing the mysterious source of the girls’ extraordinary powers. Her reaction already signals that there is a real mystery at stake. Along with Margot Cleary-Lopez, the book features four key characters, including an American foster child who grows up to become an influential figure in religion, a Nigerian journalist who documents the power of women, and a crime lord’s daughter.

In the midst of the gifted girls unleashing chaos through their powers, Collette’s character makes a statement to explain that what is taking place is legitimate. The trailer scenes include the girls electrocuting not only small objects, but also using their powers on a larger scale. There is no doubt that a severe response will be deployed in order to counter the supernatural aspect.

The series’ showrunner and executive producer is Raelle Tucker. In addition to Alderman, Claire Wilson, Reed Morano, Jane Featherstone, and Naomi de Pear are executive producers. Sarah Quintrell and Tim Bricknell co-executive produce the show.
