The Queen’s Gambit tells the story of a chess prodigy named Elizabeth Harmon (Anya Taylor-Joy), and follows her from her humble beginnings as an orphan to becoming a world champion. Along the way, Harmon faces many obstacles. She becomes horribly addicted to drugs and alcohol, making this show a story about overcoming addiction as well. She also meets several interesting characters who help her along her journey. The series was written and directed by Scott Frank, and the story takes place in the 1950s through the 1960s. The set designs and costumes throughout the series are breathtaking, and the dialogue and acting were masterful. The series was nominated for several awards including Emmys and Golden Globes.

When The Queen’s Gambit premiered on Netflix in 2020, it became the most watched show in the streaming platform’s history, according to Entertainment Weekly, and rose to top of many best Netflix original series lists. The reception from both audiences and critics alike was exceptional, and the series currently holds a 96% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. To many, it was surprising that a TV series focusing on the life of a chess player could be so thrilling and satisfying to watch. Starting from the first episode, viewers quickly learned that this was a series that had everything. There was drama and conflict from start to finish. Anya Taylor-Joy

Anya Taylor-Joy won several awards for her leading performance in The Queen’s Gambit. She is now one of the most talented and popular actors working. She recently starred in Edgar Wright’s horror film, Last Night in Soho opposite Thomasin McKenzie. She also reunited with The Witch director Robert Eggers for the upcoming film The Northman. She has several exciting projects in the works including an untitled David O. Russel film and George Miller’s Furiosa, a prequel to Mad Max: Fury Road.

Thomas Brodie-Sangster

Thomas Brodie-Sangster played the charismatic chess champion, Benny Watts. Brodie-Sangster’s career started in childhood, and he has become quite successful in his adult years. Brodie-Sangster has recently acted in two TV series currently in post-production. One is Pistol, starring Maisie Williams and Louis Partridge, following the Sex Pistols’ guitarist Steve Jones. Furthermore, Brodie-Sangster will also be playing 2nd Officer Hawkins in the upcoming war drama, Unsinkable, opposite John Malkovich and Nathalie Emmanuel.

Harry Melling

Harry Melling played the good friend of Elizabeth Hardon throughout the series. Melling has had a long career, and he is appearing more and more on screen. Melling recently played Malcolm in Joel Coen’s The Tragedy of Macbeth, adapted from William Shakespeare’s play of the same name. He will also be playing Edgar Allan Poe in the upcoming film, The Pale Blue Eyes. The film will be directed by Scott Cooper and also stars Christian Bale.

Moses Ingram

Moses Ingram played the rebellious childhood friend of Elizabeth in The Queen’s Gambit. Ingram is pretty new to the Hollywood scene, but she is already landing major roles. Like Melling, Ingram also starred in Joel Coen’s The Tragedy of Macbeth. Other than that, the actress will play Amy Sharp in the upcoming crime thriller Ambulance, directed by Michael Bay. At the same time, Ingram will be playing Inquisitor Reva in the anticipated Star Wars series, Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Marielle Heller

In The Queen’s Gambit, Marielle Heller brilliantly played the supportive adoptive mother of Elizabeth. Heller has had a successful career both in front and behind the camera. She was the director of the acclaimed film, A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood following the relationship between Fred Roger and journalist Lloyd Vodel. As far as acting goes, Heller will be playing Mac’s mom in the comedy series, MacGruber opposite Will Forte and Kristen Wiig.

Jacob Fortune-Lloyd

Jacob Fortune-Lloyd played D.L. Townes, a journalist who becomes a romantic interest of Elizabeth throughout the series. He recently played a supporting role in the romantic film, The Last Letter From Your Lover. Fortune-Lloyd has several projects currently in the works. He will be playing a part in the upcoming film, See How They Run, opposite Adrien Brody and Saoirse Ronan. He will also be playing D’Artagnan in the upcoming The Three Musketeers film.

Bill Camp

Bill Camp is a very successful character actor who has recently been appearing more and more on screen. He played Elizabeth’s childhood chess mentor in The Queen’s Gambit and was nominated for several awards for his performance. Camp recently played Henry English in the TV series, American Rust. Camp will also be acting opposite Mira Sorvino and Jim Caviezel in Alejandro Monteverde’s Sound of Freedom. At the same time, Camp has been cast in the upcoming film, Salem’s Lot, adapted from the Stephen King novel of the same name.
