Prime Video’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power brings to screens for the very first time the heroic legends of the fabled Second Age of Middle-earth’s history. This epic drama will take viewers back to an era in which great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, hope hung by the finest of threads, and the greatest villain that ever flowed from Tolkien’s pen threatened to cover all the world in darkness.
MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY
Beginning in a time of relative peace, the series follows an ensemble cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they confront the long-feared re-emergence of evil on Middle-earth. From the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains, to the majestic forests of the elf-capital of Lindon, to the breathtaking island kingdom of Númenor, to the furthest reaches of the map, these kingdoms and characters will carve out legacies that live on long after they are gone.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will feature a huge ensemble cast led by Morfydd Clark as younger, brasher, more action-oriented version of the elf queen Galadriel. The series will feature earlier versions of several familiar characters from the world of Lord of the Rings, as well as introduce a lot of new ones. In addition to Clark, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power stars Robert Aramayo as Elrond, Owain Arthur as Prince Durin, Sophia Nomvete as Princess Disa, Ismael Cruz Córdova as Arondir, Lenny Henry as Sadoc Burrows, Markella Kavenagh as Elanor “Nori” Brandyfoot, Sara Zwangobani as Marigold Brandyfoot, Megan Richards as Poppy Proudfellow, Daniel Weyman as “The Stranger,” Charles Edwards as Celebrimbor, and many, many more.
The Rings of Power Will Be Deeply Rooted in the World of Tolkien
Prime Video
While many have already taken aim and umbrage with The Rings of Power and its approach to the world of J.R.R. Tolkien, creators J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay have assured fans of Lord of the Rings that the series will feel like a natural companion piece to the iconic fantasy tale.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is scheduled to premiere on Prime Video on September 1, 2022, with two episodes back-to-back.
