Now, this is where things get interesting, as Johnson name drops several of his own, explosive actin movies alongside a few Christmas classics. Suggesting that Red One is going to be a very…different Christmas movie when the movie lands on Prime Video next year. “Think JUMANJI meets MIRACLE ON 34TH ST meets HOBBS & SHAW with a dash of HARRY POTTER and sprinkled on top with my all time favorite Christmas movie, ITS A WONDERFUL LIFE… let all that sink in.” We will certainly try our best to let all that sink in.

Aside from comparisons to everything from Hobbs and Shaw to It’s a Wonderful Life, not much has been revealed about the plot of Red One. The project has been described as “a globe-trotting, four-quadrant action-adventure comedy imagining a whole new universe to explore within the holiday genre,” and will find Dwayne Johnson starring alongside Marvel actor and Captain America himself, Chris Evans.
The festive film has been slowly putting together its supporting cast, with the likes of the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina star Kiernan Shipka and Kill Bill star Lucy Liu alongside Johnson and Evans. The rest of the Red One line-up includes Mary Elizabeth Ellis (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia), Nick Kroll (Don’t Worry Darling), Kristofer Hivju (Game of Thrones), and Wesley Kimmel (The Book of Boba Fett), J.K. Simmons (Spider-Man: No Way Home, Whiplash) starring as Santa Claus with Bonnie Hunt (Jumanji, Toy Story 4) starring as Mrs. Claus.
Red One finds Johnson reuniting with several of his frequent collaborators, with the festive flick being developed from an original story by Seven Bucks Productions’ President of Production, Hiram Garcia. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle director Jake Kasdan will be at the helm of Red One, working from a screenplay by Seven Bucks Productions’ frequent collaborator Chris Morgan who has penned scripts for Johnson many times over with such titles as Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs and Shaw, Fast Five, Fast & Furious 6, Furious 7, and The Fate of the Furious.
Red One is scheduled to be released exclusively through streaming via Prime Video, and is expected to debut during the holiday season of 2023.
