The latest image from the upcoming DC comic book outing, Black Adam, finds Dwayne “The Rock" Johnson cutting a heroic (or should that be antiheroic) figure. Unveiled courtesy of Twitter user Black Adam News (via USA Today), the image should hopefully have audiences excited to see Johnson finally make his debut as the DC character. You can check out the new image from Black Adam below.
Dwayne Johnson has been working hard for a long time to bring Black Adam to the big screen, with the actor believing that he was born to play the role.
So set on giving Black Adam the space he feels the character deserves, Johnson recently revealed that he pushed for Black Adam to receive his own movie rather than play the villain opposite Shazam. “I said, ‘I have to share my thoughts here,” he explained. “Everybody thought, ‘Hey, this script is great, let’s go make this movie.’ I said, ‘I really think that you should make Shazam!, make that movie on its own in the tone that you want. And I think we should separate this as well.”

Based on the DC character of the same name, who is often depicted as either an antihero or a straight-up supervillain, Black Adam will follow Johnson in the titular role. After nearly five-thousand years of imprisonment, Black Adam, an antihero from the ancient city of Kahndaq, is unleashed into modern times. His brute tactics and way of justice attract the attention of the Justice Society of America aka the JSA, who try to stop his rampage, teach him how to be a hero more than a villain, and must team up to stop a force more powerful than Adam himself.
Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra from a screenplay by Adam Sztykiel, Rory Haines, and Sohrab Noshirvani, Black Adam will be led by Dwayne Johnson, with the supporting cast featuring the likes of Aldis Hodge as Carter Hall aka Hawkman, Noah Centineo as Albert “Al” Rothstein aka Atom Smasher, Quintessa Swindell as Maxine Hunkel aka Cyclone, and Pierce Brosnan as Kent Nelson aka Doctor Fate – the members of the Justice Society of America. The cast also includes Sarah Shahi, Mohammed Amer, Viola Davis, James Cusati-Moyer, and Uli Latukefu.
Black Adam is scheduled to be released in the United States on October 21, 2022, by Warner Bros. Pictures. A new trailer for Black Adam is expected to land tomorrow.
