It looks like Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson found one way to give back ahead of the holiday season. At a recent screening for Red Notice, the new Netflix movie starring The Rock alongside Gal Gadot and Ryan Reynolds, Johnson provided everyone in attendance with free concessions to make the experience all the better. But for one lucky fan, The Rock went a bit further with a truly amazing surprise.
On Instagram, Johnson posted a video of the event. In the caption, he writes how he had the idea to give away the Porsche Taycan he drives in Red Notice, but Porsche wasn’t interested. The Rock was still intent on doing something special for this screening and then figured he’d just give away his personal custom truck as a gift. To determine who’d receive the vehicle, Dwayne Johnson gathered as much info as he could about everyone in the audience and was moved by the story of a Navy veteran named Oscar Rodriguez.
MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY
The Red Notice star adds in the caption, “Takes care of his 75 year old mom. Personal trainer. Leader at his church. Provides support and meals for women victimized by domestic violence. Proud & humble Navy veteran. Kind human being. Oscar said it right, just before he drove away ~ it’s just love. That’s all it is, brother. Just love. Go enjoy your new truck dude and Merry Christmas to you and your family!!!”
In the video clip, The Rock invites Oscar to the front of the audience, introducing him to the crowd and helps to explain his story. For his part, Oscar says he’s “speechless” just to be recognized by the Hollywood star. He was even more surprised when The Rock escorted him outside to where the truck was parked, collapsing to the ground once he realized that the truck was his. Excited to get behind the wheel, Oscar cannot suppress his emotions when he takes a seat inside.
This is at least the second truck in less than a year to be given away by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. He previously thanked his old pal Bruno, who used the stage name Harvey Wippleman in WWE, by gifting him with a brand new truck. This was a way of paying Bruno back for his hospitality so many years ago, as Bruno took in a young Rock as a teenager when he needed a place to stay. That footage was also shared to Instagram at the time.
“I can’t thank you enough for when I was 15 and you had every right to say ‘I don’t know this kid, I don’t want him to live with me,’” Johnson says in the clip. “You took me in and, truly Bruno, it means so much to me that you did that because it actually helped change the course of my life and I love you and I appreciate it. I thank you for buying me my first car from that crackhead and now I have an opportunity now to tell you that this is your new car.”
What a wonderful way to help ring in the holiday season this year. For more from The Rock, fans can check him out in the new movie Red Notice, which is streaming on Netflix where it set the record as the highest-watched premiere in the company’s history.
