Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman has been renewed for a second season and fans are excited to see more of the Endless return. The Netflix series is based on Gaiman’s comics of the same name, and follows the elder sibling, Dream, as he recovers from his country-long imprisonment. Moreover, the series is already beloved for its mysticism, the many myths and legends incorporated, and the array of complex characters.
Of the characters that are already beloved, there is much buzz around the Endless and there’s excitement for who will kick off Delirium’s introduction. In preparation for season 2, here are the Myers-Briggs Types (MBTI) of the Endless and how their temperament can be best understood by the audience.

1 Dream of the Endless: ISTJ
Netflix
Dream of the Endless, commonly referred to as Morpheus, best identifies with the Logistician personality type. Over the course of the series, Morpheus is seen, initially, as humorless and insensitive to humanity. Past his imprisonment, he grows aware of his flaws and takes responsibility for the repair of his realm as well as dealing with his past cruelties.

His grand sense of honor aligns with the personal integrity of the ISTJ. Morpheus is also seen to be detailed, if not meticulous, honest, and dutiful. Moreover, like the Logistician, his once foundational marriage to Calliope stems from his devotion, although it may have failed due to his challenging nature.
2 Death of the Endless: INFJ
Maternal, personable, and exceptionally compassionate, Death of the Endless most resonates with the personality of the Advocate. Of the Endless siblings, she is the kindest and most cheerful, as well as the most easygoing. Additionally, Death’s gentle nature is seen in her interactions with mortals, choosing to live one day out of each century to live as a human, making her by far the most empathetic of the siblings.
Moreover, Death’s role as the peacemaker among the Endless parallels the INFJ’s search for fulfillment and commitment to life’s purpose. Her warmth and sensitivity thus allow her to be especially close to Morpheus.
3 Desire of the Endless: ESTP
Desire’s spontaneity and love for games align with the Entrepreneur. As seen in the series, Desire has a love for themself, their craft, and their twin, Despair, and revels in casually being cruel to their elder brother, Morpheus. Their energy is typically invested in plotting, especially if it garners into being the eye of the storm.
Desire of the Endless, like the ESTP, focuses on utilizing their own moral compass based on their choices to stir trouble. In all, their perception makes them a dangerous rival and, even if fixed on broken habits, a force to be reckoned with.
4 Despair of the Endless: ISFJ
Unassuming and reserved, Despair of the Endless is best captured by the Defender personality. Despair has an affinity with her twin, Desire, and is seemingly over-committed to their relationship. Moreover, Despair is the quiet, intelligent type, which ties her to the ISFJ’s preference for working behind the scenes rather than being high-key.
Despair, while also having a soft spot for Destruction and Delirium, has a loyalty to Desire which may leave vulnerable, stressed, or open to being taken advantage of. In spite of her turbulent nature, she finds great joy in her work and delights in the sadness of others.
5 Destiny of the Endless: INTJ
DC Comics
Destiny of the Endless is an observer and solely focuses on his purpose which makes him the Architect personality. Compared to his siblings, destiny displays the least amount of personality, a factor which would be interesting to see come alive in the series. What’s more, his preference for privacy and single-minded drive of his function point in the direction of the INTJ.
Destiny is not defined by emotions but rather his stoicism, where the possession of his responsibilities makes him independent and heavily reliant on logic and reason. Furthermore, his intellect limits his interactions and the introverted aspect of the INTJ shines through his refusal to share any knowledge with his siblings.
6 Destruction of the Endless: ENFP
Destruction’s self-possession and openness to change match that of the Campaigner personality. Unlike his siblings, Destruction eventually abandons his realm and responsibilities not only to pursue more creative endeavors but to avoid being behind the scientific devastation succeeding the enlightenment.
Much like the ENFP’s enthusiasm and sense of hope, Destruction concentrates his energy on constructive projects, even if he has little talent, and pursues knowing his own nature in order to produce control over it. Additionally, his friendliness and genial nature encompass his free-spirited approach to his sibling relationships and overall outlook on life.
7 Delight/Delirium of the Endless: ISFP
Delirium’s youthful and ever-changing personality is grounded in the Adventurer. Her whimsy is founded by her scatterbrained nature and, perhaps more than any other sibling is incredibly expressive. Delirium is often playful and the distracted type, but acts impulsively and quick to anger when felt crossed.
Much like the ISFP, Delirium is spontaneous and appears as she feels: constantly changing and always on the spur of the moment. What’s more, she is as perceptive and thoughtful as the ISTP type, seemingly in the know of many things the other Endless siblings aren’t aware of, even if she has trouble expressing herself at times.
